The Triumph manual has some b.s. about HD4X Hybrid Organix Acid Technology coolant. My question: Is motorcycle coolant any different than automotive? Can he use good ole Prestone 50/50 ot need to go find something bike-specific?

Motorcycle coolant generally is different and is usually silicate-free. Automotive coolant often contains silcates which will chew up the motorcycle water pump and seals.
With a bike you are always safer to buy motorcycle or brand-specific coolant. There are some generic bike coolants like Engine Ice which are also safe to use. The bike uses so little compared to a car that there is no sense trying to save a few bucks, only to destroy your bike's vital components.
