What Gone was saying is motorcycles ( and autos) must carry those limits of liability as required by the state he lives in. I' m not sure what the minimum is in the state I live in, because I have never priced minimum covrrage for my vehicles.
If you cause a serious accident where the damages exceed those limits, you can be sued and forced to cover additional damages from your personal possessions, such as savings, personal property, future earnings, etc.
