Many of the design "disadvantages" of the CB1100 are (as Spaceman expertly satirized long ago) intentional feature selections for the benefit of folks who'd appreciate them.
I'm with lola on the rev limiter thing, though. The motor is likely *very* under-stressed, so why make customers pay for an ECU flash or aftermarket gizmo to be able to access 7k RPM in 4th gear?
But, like everything else not-perfect about the stock bike, the aftermarket seems to have something to meet my foreseeable desire to mod. Mostly basics like suspension, tires, wind protection, seat/peg distance. The stock brakes are, in my opinion, fantastic.
