It is very unlikely the battery is at fault in this case, when it is able to start the engine before and after the event, the charging system would have brought it back to over 50% in that 45 minute ride.
This cb charges even when idling with the headlight on, i've measured this.

Lesson learned haha. I usually just keep some basic tools in there. Now I've got a cheap-o socket to get the tank off so I can disconnect the PCV in case it happens again.
