I think the CTX700 is actually about 50 pounds lighter than the CB1100. It uses a moderately light chain, a 520 size, as used on most 250cc-500cc bikes. It's quite a bit narrower than the 530 size on the CB.
A four cylinder will also have smaller, more evenly spaced power pulses. Back in the day, my CBX chain lasted longer and needed fewer adjustments than my 750 four.
