Cheers G.O., that's what i thought too but on closer inspection you can see some very clean oil that settled in the low parts of the cover, the "sprague clutch" on the crank shaft and gears all need sufficient oil to be functional in the long run so i think it "drizzles oil" inside that cover, (to keep it in the climatic sphere ).
on a side note you eloquently explained the hidden failure with these new techno-bits we buy these days;
"Just a bit of clarity, the LED substrate rarely fails and I have yet to hear about one that did. More commonly the power electronics fails. This can happen due to sub par electronic components (e.g. capacitors from strange nations), or heat fatigue. This point is moot to the rider because the light subassembly still fails."

Ferret for honest disclosure i stole the picture from somewhere and i attempt to take apart factory assembled parts only as a last resort and in the knowledge that i can guarantee a positive improvement, just happy to help.
