One consideration when taking the bike to a new dealer for service is their lack of knowledge of the last service, so it makes sense that they may recommend a full service. You may find that you can easily perform many of these periodic services yourself, including oil changes, air filter replacement, spark plugs, etc. I can't comment on the tick noise without actually seeing the bike.

Just think of all the great training the service team gets ... at the rider's expense. With any luck, it may all work out.
