Up here in Eskimo land our batteries are usually removed for the winter.
Mine are stored in a cool dry place and hooked up to an Optimate charger once a month for a day or so.
This may have something to do with why they last so long.
My riding season usually ends by 1 November and starts again by 1 May depending on the weather.
