Dyno jet auto tune
#1
Hello everyone. It’s been a long time since I have posted on here. With the recent spike in fuel prices I have been riding my bike to base everyday and I have to say. I have not ridden this thing nearly enough! I bought it brand new in 2013 and I should have ridden the wheels off of it by now. It’s such a fun bike. I have a question about the power commander auto tune. Is it hard to use? I have zero experience tuning fuel injection systems. I do have a power commander v on the bike but it’s been running the stock power commander tune since 2014. I have a motoworks GP full exhaust on it (bought it shortly after I got the bike only one available at the time.) and just ordered a set of stock intake stacks to bore out and put in. Anyone have any video recommendations or write ups on how to use the auto tune correctly? I don’t want to mess anything up. It’s great being back on 2 wheels.

Ok I got the Autotune haven’t installed it yet PowerDubs I’ve been reading a lot of your forum posts about tuning. What should my target AFR’s be? I’m new to this so please bare with me this is a long way from tuning carbs.

Hi,

I haven’t been in here for a while as I’ve sold my CB, but still lurk occasionally[Image: 00787b31f3ae5f64932c3a7876041b8b.png]

I had the Auto Tune on my bike with an aftermarket pipe, TSR intakes and I’m not sure if anything else?

If you have a PCV then it’s fairly plug and play, so long as you have the right sized thread for the O2 sensor in your exhaust, I think it’s 18mm.

Once you’ve popped in the O2 sensor and connected it up to the PCV, I think I set a target AFR of 14.1 and just left it to do it’s thing…. It was awesome! Super smooth fuelling with lots of low and mid range pull.

It’s sooooo much easier than fiddling with carbs. It’s just you have to have a laptop to mess around with it all.

Hope that’s what you were looking for. I think I may have written about it before, so you might find more info if you search my threads.

Best
Kev

Just saw this post.

Autotune is great.

Yea- you need to have a larger bung welded in the exhaust, and you need a laptop or PC.

You set the target table for what A/F you want at each RPM and throttle position.

Then go ride- and the bike makes a suggested trim table- adding or removing fuel in each spot if needed- and IF you hit that spot during your ride.

You then can modify that trim table if you want- or just apply it as is if you think it is good.

That's it. Then go ride again.

The hardest part is trying to hit every RPM at every throttle position. It takes several rides to bring it to where you will want it.

I bought the Dynojet POD dash display to I can see the info as I ride. Very versatile on what data it can show.

For reference- the maps Dynojet supplies for the PCV are just a target of 13.2 across the board.

I have mine set down to 13, 12.9, 12.8 as the throttle position increases as well as the RPM increases.

Even with those settings in the autotune- the tailpipe sniffer showed the bike a bit leaner I would like from 6500 to redline at the last dyno. I'm going to watch the injector duty cycle next time.

Once I get my dyno setup finished, I will have a LOT more info / data to share since I can see more & adjust a LOT better while stationary. I'll be reading direct off the PCV instead of a tailpipe sniffer.

Agree with those before me ... PCV with Autotune works a treat, very easy to set up, and great fun to tinker with the fuel maps knowing that you're heading in the correct direction. Dubs is spot on, it's somewhat challenging trying to hit all those RPM and Throttle position steps when on the road. To help I painted a white indicator dot on the throttle grip such that it lined up with a graduated scale (piece of tape marked up with throttle open %) stuck to the switch block. With laptop plugged into the PCV you can accurately make the graduated scale of throttle open %. It was easier but still bloody hard trying to hit all the increments. Enjoy the tinkering.

Hey guys thanks for the reply's. Ive been away for a while but just yesterday got my autotune installed. Now I just need a base map to load up on the power commander to start with. I have an open air box lid ( cut an extra lid into one of the TSR covers.) and full MotoGP Werks 4-1 exhaust with no baffle so its straight piped. What base tune should I start with?

I have a cat free exhaust.
O2 delete plug and the O2 sensor hole plugged.
PCV.
TSR Tunnel Rams.
TSR intake plate with larger K&N filter.
TSR map installed.
Stock gearing.
No home computer.
No auto tune.
Normal city riding, I get respectable MPG, roughly 55MPG. Highway riding, or above roughly 60MPH, miles per gallon drops off a lot. Closer to 37MPG.
Imagine the base TSR tunnel ram tune is dumping more fuel to be conservative.
I’m under the impression with a cat free exhaust, the bike would throw an engine light with the O2 sensor installed. True/false, I do not know? But I’m also thinking the auto tune would be wise to help smooth out the tune a bit and help the MPG.
Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

I would absolutely 110% put in an auto tune box at that point… no if, ands, or buts.
