Spoke with my mechanic and he bought pure gas from this station right down from him, and it happens to be on this list. He put a sample in gas mason jar and let it sit for a week. In a weeks time the fuel had separated. Into what, nobody knows bye he assumed the bottom fluid was water. He knows the stations owner fairly well, small town. They had a frank discussion about it, and the owner showed his invoices of buying pure gas. he said he says for pure gas but has noway of testing if hes getting what he pays for. I'm sure their is a way to test.....so in the end the consumer never knows what they get.

Was in the parts store today...had both in my hand...Startron & SeaFoam...........was going to buy both...but ended up choosing Startron....so even though it was 39 degrees out, I added the 1.5 oz to my tank, filled up at the gas station, cruised down our local Main Street and headed home, connected my Optimate....and reminded myself not to ride again until temps were in the UPPER 40's or 50, hope I don'r have to wait too long, we usually get a few warm spells throughout the winter.

Is that what the instructions on the Startron said 1.5 oz to 4 gals? Thats pretty light. On a full tank I put 1-1.5 oz per gallon depending on summer or winter...Or about 4- 6 oz to a CB tank.

In my area they have Flex Fuel pumps, but the rest of the gas says "10% or less ethanol.".

Is that typical?

Alcohol and water have never been an issue for me before, but nowadays I work from home and travel. The car is 6 months old and has less than 2k miles. I'm wondering of I should be more concerned now than when I was commuting 60 miles a day.

The blended gas has been a problem for folks that have plastic gas tanks. Especially European models, the ethanol causes them to swell, sometimes badly, giving warranty problems. Can't use a magnetic tank bag either. Some recent Moto Guzzi models used the a connector in the fuel pump system embedded in the tank that swelled up causing the fuel line to pop out stranding the rider. Oops.

Metal tanks will have their problems too but ethanol is not one of them.

Testing for alcohol is pretty easy. In the aviation world, many planes can use car gas, but are forbidden from using anything with ethanol. The 40 yr. old fuel system components are not compatible. It's always a good idea to test any car gas before putting it into the airplane tanks.

Take a clear glass jar and add a 1/2" of water. Mark the level of the water with a sharpie. Fill the rest of the jar with the suspect gas and shake it up thoroughly. Let it sit for 20 min. If the level of water is now below the line that you marked, the gas contains alcohol.

The alcohol in the fuel absorbs water and keeps it in suspension, lowering the amount of water that settles back to the bottom of the jar.

Wow, must be stronger than Seafoam or Stabil. I know Startron gets rave reviews from one of the Motorcycle Magazine Tech Guy, but I can't remember which one cause I get 5 magazines. I buy Seafoam by the gallon, going to have to look into the price of Startron I guess.

Starbrite Startron Fuel Additive - Initial Treatment - 1 Fl OZ for 8 Gal Fuel, thereafter 1 Fl OZ for 16 Gal Fuel. I put a quarter to half OZ in at every fill-up.
