If I have to give up bikes I think I'll get a Razr. Or some other four wheeled quad. They seem to be a real hoot to drive.

Congratulations! I have a Yamaha Zuma 125 scooter and the CB1100 ABS and I love both. But I'll have to say the appeal of not having to shift is very strong. I love that my scooter is twist and go. If I didn't love the style of the CB so much I might have ended up with an NC700X DCT or the CTX700 DCT. I found them both very comfortable and agree the CTX has a much lower center of gravity and feels very nimble.
Please let us know how you like the automatic transmission, I'd like to hear as much as possible since the likelihood of a test ride from my dealer is pretty small.

[url=http://www.polaris.com/en-us/atv-quad/rzr-170-indy-red]2014 Polaris RZR When I searched for razor I also got the cell phones but also the electric kids quads... didn't think that is what he was referring to.

Thanks Buster!
That's the one. (sorry ferret, didn't mean to send you off on wild goose chase, at least a chase that did not involve your new bike )

The auto transmission is really a dual clutch automatically shifting a manual transmission. Hey in real life it's pretty much like driving an automatic transmission in a car and like the newest cars you can over ride the auto feature. A push button on the right hand control puts the trans in standard drive or sport or manual. If you put it into manual you then control the upshifts with a trigger on the left control and you can also down shift it manually with your thumb (again left hand control). What is nice is as you slow in manual the transmission will down shift automatically so in reality while in the manual mode you just trigger the up shifts. No need to let off the gas either. It's a pretty nice arrangment. My Vespa has a continuously variable transmission which also seems to work flawlessly.
I know a lot of fellows think an automatic motorcycle is worthless but it does have a place for sure.

the thing about the automatic transmission with the CTX700 that I rode is that if you let it be in full automatic mode, the upshifting is a little on the rough side. Not a smooth upshift... Just felt almost for the lack of better terms, clunky on the shifting.
Now putting it in a manual sort of automatic, meaning using the paddle shifter to up or down shift it seemed that I could shift the bike smoother than when it was in full automatic. Is it nice?! Definitely! Was going to see about talking my wife into one of those instead her PCX150... Especially with the hard bags she would have more storage room. Definitely if I had the money there would be one in the stable at home!!!

This CTX700 DCT ABS really doesn't compare at all to the CB1100 (other then it does have two wheels) I really liked the CB1100 but I am making concessions to my age, weight and general fitness level (or lack there of) I would say if you wanted to compare it to anything it might be closer to a Burgman or a Silverwing in power and performance but it's still a swing your leg over motorcycle. I've had big scooters and they are entirely fine but this bike seems to be a bit better handling and it certainly isn't more of a handful over say the Silverwing (seat height balance etc). I rode it home on I 81 from Hagerstown to Chambersburg and it's fine on the highway. Probably not a first choice to ride real long distances and certainly not two up (which I never do). Hey, life is a compromise beginning to end. While at Twiggs the fellow before me was picking up a brand new Goldwing Trike. To each his own but that rig did not appeal to me at all. And for the money??? The CB is a fine machine I didn't part with it due to any issues at all with the bike. One of the very best I've had in my collection for sure. Thanks for the info. Even though I understand the two bikes aren't very different it is interesting to see the differences. I'm really drawn to the new [url=http://powersports.honda.com/nm4.aspx]NM4 for a second bike (I can't afford) which has many similarities to your CTX.

Isn't the NM4 the VULTUS? and the CTX700 totally a different bike... but notice how they are trying to get the new technologies into the main stream..
Both of those bikes though are sub 800cc. wonder if they will build or produce another large one like the failed DN-01??
04-16-2014, 07:50 AM
I owned a DN-01. In my opinion that bike failed only due to its cost. I believe the transmissions on the two bikes while functionally similar are different. I looked for another DN-01 and could find none priced much below the cost of a new CTX 700. Isn't the CTX1300 also available with the auto? I guess not.The 1300 was too much bike for me or I would have had it .
