Accident pics
#21
I was splitng lanes #1 and #2 (the far left and the one next to it) on Friday and 4:45 in I 680 S traveling approximately 30 - 35 mph (speed delta of about +5 mph) when I came upon an opening in #1 that I was going to move into when the car in #2 (that I was at the drivers door with my front tire) moved unexpectedly without warning and VERY rapidly towards that open spot and knocked me down. I dumped and rolled a few times ending up on my back on the left shoulder and never lost consciousness. Two people stopped to help and called EMS, neither of them being the person that hit me. So all of this is coming out of MY insurance and pocket unless someone find this individual and then I will sue....with no mercy because as far as I'm concerned they left me for dead on the side of the freeway.

I don't want a debate about lane splitting/sharing so please don't go there.

Thanks, Randy.

Well I think you were in the right if for no reason other than I hate driver's who do things suddenly and without indication. I've been hit and left for dead on the side of the road too (but I was rear ended) and couldn't feel parts of my left leg for many years due to severed nerves. Very glad you're ok. Hopefully you can get the Blue Bomber up and running again while you recover.
(and by ok I mean alive and able to recover, I realize you're not without injury)

Heal up Randy! It truly is a jungle out here in california when roads get congested and cagers start loosing focus. thank goodness your Okay.

I'm probably going to start shopping for a good video camera to mount on the steed just in case these idiots try to get away.

Randy, sorry this happened to you! I can only imagine how upset I would be if this happened to me.

That being said, while I realize that lane splitting may be a legal, common practice in CA, this is the exact reason I don't do it myself. It's not exactly a risk averse move. That, and I don't really care for the perception of motorcyclists that this type of behavior propagates.

Heal up soon, best of luck from a legal perspective!

GoPro has a handlebar mount. My issue is bothering to put the camera on the mount!

Jeez, that didn't take long. Randy only mentioned lane splitting in response to a question asked of him. If people want to debate lane splitting, I would encourage them to start a new thread and leave it out if this one.

Heal well Randy.

I guess I am reading it differently but Grover wasn't debating he just said he doesn't do it because of perception and the type of behavior it propagates from cagers. I took and read it that he said he doesn't do it. Not that he was debating whether it was right or wrong...

Randy please do not take this that I am debating it either way. Heal up and I look forward to your getting back on the road again.

Hope the healing moves along quickly! At least living in CA, it's not like you're missing out on riding season Smile
