The biggest key to successful outcomes of joint replacement, IMO, is following your doctor's and the PT's orders for therapy. Those that thought they knew better, or were too inconvenienced to follow it to the letter, have the worst outcomes.

I will second that. My first hip replacement, 8 years ago, no pre-op instructions and I didn't follow post-op therapy. Now I still have discomfort, at rest, from that hip but it's ok when walking. My second hip op was done last October and I followed pre-op instructions, lost weight and followed the exercise program (even gave up drinking). After the op I went to therapy and religiously followed an exercise regime, now that hip is fantastic and I have been cycling and swimming since November (not non stop if you now what I mean ). Since then I have bought 2 new bikes a W800 and of course a CB1100 and riding is once again a pleasure.
