New Show on Velocity - Naked Speed

So weather has been crappy here in NOVA and the roads are all covered in salt and chemicals. No riding for a while now. I sat down this evening to watch the new Velocity show Naked Speed that I recorded on my DVR earlier this week. I think the show comes on Wednesdays at 10PM. Anyway, Mike Seate, former producer of Cafe Racer TV, and Brian Fuhler, Two Guys Garage fame, essentially carry the torch for the cafe racer crowd. In this first episode, Mike Seate travels to Kott Motorcycles in CA. Andy Kott is known for his vintage Honda custom cafe bikes. At one part in the show, Mike is carving turns heading to Kott's shop. He is riding a new CB1100 black standard edition. Very cool.

I had high hopes after talking to Bryan Fuller, the show's host, when I was at Barber for the Historic festival. Unfortunately, the first show was pretty lame. I'm afraid they are trying to turn it into another "reality show" instead of focusing on building cafe racers. The Kott junkyard CB750 was not very impressive, they "improved" the brakes by putting an old 60's Triumph drum brake on front??? I also get really tired of these shows where there is a totally artificial "deadline" put in place to add drama to the story.

I'm not surprised that it's taken on a reality show, competition model. I imagine they're hoping to appeal to a broader audience than just custom café builders. To do that, they need (feel they need) to add some elements of drama. I've read that one aspect of drama they're going to avoid is the personality/family drama that permeated the OC Chopper show. Personally, I liked the first episode. Light-hearted, family friendly, but with good insights into the thought process and techniques of the builders. I'm a fan.

I liked it. It's a show about motorcycles, so I'm happy to even have that. Sometimes you have to look past the fluff and just focus on the bikes, but I understand the storyline may not be ideal. I'll watch more.
