JF,
I'm from Savannah and am going to be down there for the Christmas week. What do you have?

I'd suggest keeping them. Someday you may decide to sell the bike. Most buyers will want the bike to be in stock, unmolested condition. The parts may be unobtainable from Honda at that point (ever try to find a complete stock exhaust for a CB350/4, CB400/4, or CB750K0? They can be worth as much as the entire bike). You can then sell your aftermarket goodies on eBay or wherever.

If you look at ads for used bikes, the ones that generate the most excitement and sell first are the bone stock ones. So when and if it comes time to sell your bike. Put all the original stuff back on and sell the farkles off separately. The new owner may want first dibs on them, but farkles don't seem to add value to a bike so you don't get your money back (with a few exceptions).
I'm keeping mine in a well protected state (not that I have many )so that the bone stock option is there when I sell.

The day will probably come when a new owner may want those parts. When I passed my 1989 Honda Hawk on to a new owner he got the original seat and any and all factory nuts, bolts and bits too - whether he wanted them or not ![]() It was up to him to do as he wished with them.

Popgun, you are from Savannah ??!! I thought I was the only one. If you want to go for a ride or have a beer, let me know. I'll be in town.
I've got fenders.. signals.. handlebars.. headers.. exhaust.. mirrors.. etc. Looks like the consensus is pretty unanimous. Maybe I just need to bag them up and put them in the house attic !! Getting them out of my small shed will clear my head .

I personally keep all my stock stuff, then put it back to stock before selling and sell off the aftermarket stuff separately. Way I see it, you won't get as much for your aftermarket stuff if you sell it as one package on the bike.

JF,
I'm from Savannah, but live in Virginia Beach. I Will be in Savannah from the 18 or 19(haven't decided) until the Monday after Christmas. I'll be using my car though. I usually stay at the Hilton Homewood Suites on White Bluff Rd. I'm from the Southside. And all you other guys, thanks for messing up some possible good deals

The other consideration is the fact that our CB's are still relatively new and relatively scarce. How many people are looking to buy stock CB parts today? I'd guess not many. So, you'd probably not get much for your stuff anyway. In 5-10 years, when those of us still riding CB's need your parts, you'll be glad you kept them.

Great advice.
I did about $3500 in farkles on my NC700X but kept everything and will return to stock and sell the goodies when I sell it. I have over $10,000 in farkles on the CB but sold my stock parts to help finance my addiction. When time comes to sell, I expect to recoup about 30% of my investment. So I plan to keep the CB a few more years........unless there's a 2016 or 2017 CB1100. |
