Will the CB1100 be the last of it's kind in America?

Very telling. Why would you care who gives a darn about what you are riding? Or who eyeballs the bike? Or their age bracket? Who are you trying to "Wow"? Just asking.

And what exactly constitutes a Poser bike? IYHO?
Any cruiser? An "Adventure bike"? You do realize that there are plenty of folks who ride what they like, just like you ride what you like? Not fishing for an argument but there is a reason why so many bike styles exist. Why all the forums exist. I respect your opinions, but they are just that. I like Harley's. So do a lot of folks. I also really like standard's or Naked bike's. But you seem to go out of your way to proclaim that your limited, simple opinion is the Gospel. JPT, I ain't trying to get banned or give you a hard time, but with all the options around us, lighten up. Maybe observe some of your own foibles at some point. Were all just human. You too. I'm simple and old school...if your on two wheels. we are equal. At some point we lost that. And it's a darn shame we did... no offence intended.

Any bike that promises or advertises more than it can deliver.

Or, alternately, delivers more than can be rationally used. Such as a 200-mph racer sold as a street ride.

It's pretty straightforward. If you want to scare people, you make your bike look like something out of a Hell's Angels movie and dress in black leather vest.

OK. When it comes to finned, air-cooled engines...what is more important:

Would it be acceptable, in the future, for Honda to produce a finned engine that looked air cooled but was in fact subtly cooled by a well-hidden water system?

For me, no. Fake air scoops, fake sprocket covers on shaft drive bikes, fake gas tanks that are actually air cleaner covers or storage, fake anything is buzzkill to me. Make it real or don't make it in this mans opinion. H-D does exactly what you are talking about here in a couple of their touring bikes. They hide two small radiators in the shin fairings of the Electra Glide. You need to really look to see which bikes have them and which don't. Several metric cruiser V-twins have finned engines with not so subtle radiations clamped on the front of the frame. They sell so many do find them acceptable, just not me.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but I hope this doesn't stray too far off-topic....

Suppose Honda's next foray into retro-bikes was a water-cooled, shaft drive, standard along the lines of the GL1000/GL1100? A bike like this would probably not appeal to the cafe racer crowd, but I think that there may be others who would be interested in something like that.

Before the CB1100 came out I would have been interested in a Classic Goldwing; naked. 1100-1200cc's, no tupperware, like the original.

But then the CB1100 came along, got it, and scratched all those old itches.

I leave my options open; if Honda came out with a killer retro GL1200 that did not weight a lot I might be seduced by it.

In response to ChipBeck, when Triumph put fake carb covers on the EFI, well that was a deal breaker for me. I understand why they did it; but it just killed it for me. For some reason, and I bet it was the original GL1000 that did it, but a "fake" gas tank between the seat and triple tree is not as bad a buzz kill. It's just bodywork at that point. Usually they don't try very hard to make it look like a gas tank, but are better than others at this.

How about a water cooled in-line six standard with polished engine cases and no fake fins. A modern evolution of the CBX. Follow BMW's lead by making the motor no wider than an air-cooled four and with a single throttle body to eliminate synchronizing six. Keep it naked and show off the motor.

The first year CBX is one of the coolest bikes ever built. I didn't like the fairing on the 2nd year model. I would love a retro F.I. CBX.
