Greetings to my fellow CB 1100 owners!

It was love at first sight immediately upon seeing the CB 1100! While I was truly smitten, I tried resisting the attraction for months as I had given up riding years ago for various reasons, and thought those days were forever over.

Needless to say, resistance was futile, lol, as the love and lure was too strong and finally won when “the big day” came yesterday as I took delivery of my new 2014! It’s like Christmas morning waking up today and finally having it in the garage to admire!

I joined the forum months ago and have enjoyed reading your experiences, and welcome the camaraderie of this fine group; many thanks to everyone for your excellent and valuable contributions.

Please allow my first question, concerning the exhaust muffler; while looking at the bracket and/or “hanger” welded to the muffler which attaches it to the foot peg carrier, does the round muffler have a “flat spot” directly in front of the welded bracket?

I answered in the new owners post you made, but,

Not on mine. That big dent back there is normal though.

Edit to add. The '13 and '14 muffler have the same part number and are thus the same.

Thanks for your response.

The "flat spot" can be seen while crouching and/or standing on the exhaust side of the bike; it isn't easy to see at first, but once you know what and where to look for it, it's VERY noticeable.

Please find attached pictures; apologies for the poor image quality and reflections as it's difficult to capture the issue in pictures.

The "flat spot" is in between the blue tape arrows in the pictures.

Great pics! Yes, mine has a spot like that. Maybe not quite as big, but easily seen and felt once you know where. I've never noticed that before and am guessing that it is a result of the welding process.

PHEW – HUGE sigh of relief; MANY thanks for your helpful and thoughtful response(s).

Needless to say, I've been VERY anxious and concerned upon noticing the issue; however, learning yours also has a similar, albeit perhaps smaller "flat spot" allows me to hope this issue may be common and/or normal with our bikes.

Wondering if anyone else and/or everyone has the same or similar "flat spot?"

I will add additional pictures of my bike asap, and will also share my exceptional purchase experience with Bryan at Sport Cycles in Rockingham, NC.

OK, you made me pull out my spare muffler. It has it too. Not too noticeable though.

OMGosh – you even have a spare muffler, lol?!

Thanks for also checking your spare; would you estimate the size of the "flat spots" are similar on both of your mufflers, or do their sizes differ? I'm asking since you mentioned the spot on your first muffler appears smaller than mine, and you have me wondering if mine is extraordinarily large, lol!

Thanks for sharing Ferret's "Ride more, worry less" quote/saying; I can only wish, as life would surely be much more enjoyable!

I would say both mine are about the same. Hard to tell, but mine look less than yours. Probably not much though.

I believe you are the first member who has mentioned this. Most flipped out over the big "dent".

The board is a little slow today, but I would expect you will get some more answers soon.

I'm surprised I'm the first who has mentioned and/or noticed it; however, per the Honda bulletin, I spent ~ an hour or more cleaning the entire exhaust at the dealership service department prior to starting the bike, and I never noticed it until getting home late last night.

As mentioned previously, "it isn't easy to see at first, but once you know what and where to look for it, it's VERY noticeable."

While it will be interesting to learn if others also have a similar "flat spot," I can't thank you enough for your first responses which have helped me feel so much better and relieved. Prior to your help and responses, I was VERY anxious and concerned about having this terrible dent in my exhaust; however, knowing both your mufflers also have a similar, although perhaps smaller flat spot will allow me to enjoy my day so much more without worrying about a serious defect with my new bike.
