Something odd with this one. I used to live only a few miles from this area and route 63 is a pretty straight road. All I can think of is texting, impaired or deliberate.

Awful. Group rides are often not safe. A friend on a group ride got startled by a woman with little experience, riding too fast up the right side in the breakdown lane. She swerved into the woman by mistake, who never should have been racing up the right side of the group. I read about a woman in Mass on a group ride killed the same way as the woman in this article. Two staggered lanes of riders and she was in the left side of riders in the right lane of the road. She couldn't get her Harley out of the way of the oncoming driver who came across the yellow line. People are texting. They're looking at the radio, looking in the mirror, looking in the glove box and so on. I've had people come across the divided line into my lane and pull out in front of me from the right and the left. Yes, they will come across the road and yes, they will pull out. Please take an extra second and assume they WILL do something stupid.

No matter why someone cuts into your lane or space, if you have some room (which is the real benefit of a motorcycle if we can exploit it) you can often save your skin.

I did a charity group ride last week and felt tense the entire ride. I rode at the very end of the column (about 30 riders) and left at least 150' clearance ahead. It was for a very good cause and would not have participated otherwise.

Jesus, that car just didn't cross the yellow lines, it went all the way across the lane and impacted with the bike on the outside edge of the lane.

Sent shivers down my spine (broken in 3 places due to a recent accident, also caused by a cager).
The driver of the car just finished 18 months of probation for criminal mischief 3 weeks before the accident. Maybe she won't escape jail this time. Pease be super careful out there. Our population of riders are rarely the cause of bad accidents.

I found her FB page and she runs a horse farm in CT and has all of these nice pics about the farm and her girls that are in HS and college. There obviously was nothing eluding to her conviction there and just nice warm and fuzzy thoughts. People don't usually set out to destroy someones life like this, but the careless nature of this incident exemplifies why everyone needs to pay attention when out on the road. Riders and drivers alike need to be aware of their surroundings at all times, but in the day and age of 16,000,000 distractions inside the vehicle it is becoming harder and harder to keep your focus on the task at hand.....driving. IMHO vehicular manslaughter NEEDS to be on the table with this one because of just how bad it went. Unless she had a seizure while she was driving, she was otherwise distracted and not paying attention to the road. She has some money from what I can see, but weather of not she is willing to use it all to keep herself out of prison is another story. I'm sure that her girls love the horse farm and would be devastated if it were to be sold for her defense. There again having a felon for a mother that went to jail for killing people doesn't sound all that of a rosy prospect either. Whatever happens it's gonna hurt, but she needs to go to jail for this, and I think the families should sue her for everything she has because they will never get back what she took from them.
