Hi I've been watching this forum for a while.Really like the new CB1100's !!! I'm 58 and do not have a modern bike,but I do have a bunch of 1972-1975 Kawasaki H2750 and S3400 2 stroke triples ( I'm on most of the triple forums) !!! I was hoping you guys could answer a question for me !!! I am thinking about buying a used CB1100 because its a cool bike and I can't believe you can buy a bike like this for the money (used) !!! Reading the post I know some don't like the new 2017 tank but I really do !!! I was wondering if for sure a 2017 EX or RS tank will fit a 2013-2014 standard CB1100 ??? Thanks for the info and I enjoy reading the post on this forum !!!

I don't think we know the answer to your question as no one here has a 17 yet and thus no tank swapping has been done.

Thanks,I was under the impression that all the year bikes including the 2017 shared the same frame so I was hoping the new tank would fit right on !!!! If not I may have to just man up and get a 2017 EX (LOL) !!!!!!

Takashi san at Samurider.com may be able to answer your question about the tank, although even he may not yet have the necessary information. You could ask, though.

Barry, The '13s and 14 standard have different part numbers. I imagine the '17 will too. And, I would expect a lot of things will interchange, and some not so much.

Thanks again guys got a quick answer back from Takashi and he said the new tanks will fit !!! In regards to the CB,I've been looking for a newer bike for a while !! I liked the CB's when they first came out,but to be honest I thought the price was high !! I really like the new 2017 bikes,especially the EX with spoke wheels but have to say the RS is one beautiful bike also !!! I think 13K is a little higher price than I expected from Honda for the new version,but like most of you say,Honda built it they way they wanted so good for Honda !!! Strictly for a practical standpoint the prices for the used CB's are almost too good to pass up right now !!! 5K for a CB with low miles is probably one of the better deals in used bikes at the moment,especially if you want to mod one !!! My thoughts are, I really like the new bike,but if I can find a good use one and put a new tank on it,you could get somewhat of the new version look and save about 6K if the new 2017 out the door price is going to be around 13-14K !!!!!! See then I can spend the other 6K on Kawasaki's new retro Z1 that is coming (LOL) !!! Cool bikes,cool forum and thanks again or the help !!!

Having owned a 1972 Kawasaki H2 Mach IV, I think you should be aware that CB1100 is over 100 pounds heavier. While the H2 carries its weight low because of its 2-stroke engine with no cams or valves, the Honda is top heavy because of its tall twin-cam 16 valve motor.
Like you I think the 2017 CB1100 EX is a beautiful bike and intend to buy one. But be aware it is not going to be as light and nimble as the H2. Since you have a bunch of them, you might want to keep one and sell the rest for money towards a CB1100 EX.

Keep n mind, the tank swap could cost you around $1000. Honda wanted almost that for a 2014 tank. Babbits wanted around $775 for a new one.

A used one makes a lot of sense.
