My experience with the CB as an article in "Kradblatt"
#1

Last year I was asked by the German motorbike magazine "Kradblatt" to write a longtime review of my CB. I did and now the article is published in August 2025.

https://online.kradblatt.de/de/profiles/...es/page/10

The article is written in German. Maybe, if you like, you can use a translator. I'm glad that the CB gets some public perception.

Google Translate has generously translated Wisedrum's article for you. The pictures didn't make it across, but you can read the text.

Be advised - when I clicked on the link (on my computer) it downloaded the article to my computer instead of opening it on my screen. I found it in my download file.

Won't make that mistake again.

First, very cool to see a published review, congatulations!  I love your 3 bikes as I have two of them as well, and have owned an RE.

From the translation:

"After 20,000 km, the CB began experiencing idling problems. It either increased to 1,500 rpm and higher on its own, even when the engine was warm, or the engine eventually died as the idle speed dropped. After some back and forth with the Honda branch in Germany, this problem, which also affected several other CB riders, was resolved with a free injection system software update."

It mystifies me that Honda never allowed the software update for CB1100s in the U.S.  When my '14 standard went through the high/low idle drama, I wrote a letter to Honda and spoke with a customer service person by phone regarding the issue.  In both I mentioned that owners in Europe were having success with a software update, and the replies were "we have no knowledge of this...continue to work with your dealer".  My dealer is an hour away from where I live with not so pleasant traffic.   I traded it in for a Triumph Speed Twin instead.

But I am happy that the '17 has never had similar idle problems.

Thank you very much, Cormanus, for having Google Translate translate the German text into English. It was big fun for me to read my review in a foreign language. I only found one mistake and like to put it right: The rear tire lasted 26.000km but front tires only lasted half of these km, 13.000km. Google Translate treated them the same which isn't the case.

You're welcome, Wisedrum. I hope I've now fixed the error.
