Thoughts on Kevlar Jeans?

I was thinking when the temp gets above 85 or 90 chances of me wearing actual protective riding pants is very low, I think I would just go with jeans or Carhardts....so do you think Kevlar jeans like the ones below would be a little better then just regular jeans?
Any experience with them?

I don't have any personal experience but everything I've ever read about Kevlar jeans has been positive.

FYI: Draggin jeans are almost half the price of the Dainese jeans.

I own a pair of these same exact jeans, along with Dainese's Bruce and Air Drakes. The D6 Kevlar jeans are definitely beefier than any pair of jeans I've seen. The seams are stitched with Kevlar yarn, so I suspect they will hold together better in a crash than ordinary jeans. There's a kevlar layer added to just the knee section for added abrasion resistance.

There is no armor built into them and I wear Forcefield limb tubes underneath. They look great and are a slim straight cut. I would recommend them over any standard jeans. With that said, if you are doing commuting duty, I would highly recommend the Air Drakes over these. They flow a ton of air and come with hip padding and also awesome knee/shin protectors. The Drakes are very slim fitting and short though, and work best under a pair of riding boots.

That's a lot more than I'd be wanting to spend on a pair of jeans, no matter how awesome. And from what I could tell from the description, the only kevlar lining is in the knees... they use kevlar "yarn" in the rest of it. I assume that helps with abrasion resistance some, but it can't be as effective as the lining.

I've seen this company recommended before, although I haven't bought anything from them. http://www.hoodjeans.co.uk/ Their jeans are lined all the way around the hips, down to the shins in the front and to the knee in the back. They're expensive, but less than the Dainese jeans. With exchange rates, minus VAT plus shipping, they're about $140/pair.

From the description of the lining on the Draggin' Jeans site, I'd go with those or the Hood's instead of the Dainese. I may be ordering a set of the Draggin' sometime soon myself. I have a pair of riding jeans, but I need a couple more pairs. I'd order more of what I have, but they're discontinued, which is a shame, because they zip off to shorts, which is amazing for when I get where I'm going.

Although, if you could look into a crystal ball and see yourself sliding down the road, and the pants saved your bottom half from severe road rash, the ED visit and hours of painful rehab.....$200 would be a small price to pay.

I use a pair of FirstGear HT Air Overpants. They have armor in the knees and hips. They are made of mesh and breath very well. You can wear them over a pair of shorts if it gets really hot and still have some protection. They also come with a zip in rain liner. I wear them on my commute to work everyday.

I'm not arguing that. My concern with the Dainese is that they're only actually lined at the knee. There's Kevlar yarn in the rest of it, but there's no way that's as effective as a separate full sized liner. Plus, they're almost another $100 more than 2 other options that both have an almost full lining.

I like Aerostich stuff, these are a little better then reg jeans for protection and are alot more comfortable for riding. They have pockets in them for pads also. Good for same temps as jeans.

I'm on my 3rd pair. No impact protection but I think the Kevlar panels would offer some abrasion protection,One pair of Bros is a heavier denim and also hip and butt protection panels that velcro in. This is in addition to the kevlar already sewn in. I always ride with them..Good Luck...

If I recall correctly Draggin jeans is the original manufacturer of Kevlar jeans and they're also made in the USA.
