western US CB1100 rally?

well, perhaps we should pool our experiences on various western US riding locations and see what we can come up with.  There's a KOA campground with a few hotel rooms at Kamiah ID.  not far from that is the Lolo Pass.  99 miles of twisties up and over and into Missoula MT.  follows the clearwater river.  scenic too. 

the southern states in the west will be darn hot in the summer time, the northern states in the west often get afternoon mountain showers in the summer.  if some of the southern states in the west in the summer I'd suggest the mountainous areas to moderate the temps.  I've not ridden yet in Northern Utah but I would think the mountains there would be fun and scenic. 

I would assume much of the western part of Colorado would be pretty scenic and mountainous.  Yellowstone area of course would be scenic. 

part of the challenge I think will be finding a spot that has good scenery, interesting roads, adequate lodging, and is about a day's travel away from where we live for many of us western cb1100 folks.

This could be a really great Idea.  Back when the Westcoast rallies were being held I always thought it would be awesome to attend one, even though i'm all the way on the East coast.  It would be a lot of fun to go hang out with a completely different group and see places I would never otherwise get to see. The most I can do to help you out with this is give advice on organizing it, which some of us on the East Coast have a lot of experience doing. on the surface, Utah seems like a really advantageous location!  You could get folks that are closer to the central part of the country, and get the west coast people to show, and Utah has roads and locations that are extremely attractive to all participants as a draw to get them to come.

I own a home in the Texas Hill Country 40 miles from downtown Austin. It also has incredible riding opportunities and facilities, but any event should be scheduled anytime but the hell-hot summer.

I lived in Duncan, OK back in the day and used to travel to Edmond for nice weekend trips. Route 66 was a true blessing for me, both on a motorcycle and a bicycle. You live in a great community with great people. Sunset at Arcardia Lake is as good as it gets. 

It has been over 25 years since my last visit, but I still remember it. The Edmond I remember had real potential. Not sure if Development has taken over those kinds roads or not.

The biggest key that has always made these rallies into a fun time is taking advantage of inside knowledge. Many times the person organizing the event either lives in or is extremely familiar with the area where the event is held. This guarantees the best time will be had by all who attend, because you remove all the guesswork from the riding. Plotting routes on a map and showing people routes you know yourself are very different things. If any of you have a spot that's both a good location and extremely familiar to you, you're the one.

Using the same approach that has worked so well elsewhere, I am willing to organize an East Bay CB1100 rally in Northern California. I have worked and lived here off and on for 20 years. I know where we can have a great time and some beautiful rides. 

Because I also own a business here, I can leverage my business relationships to help secure some discounts for us.

If the travel requirements are just too much, I am also willing to sponsor a Saturday morning Coffee Outing in downtown Pleasanton for local CB1100 owners, if there are any other than me!

All that is Ideal for a multi-day ride gathering like this, so you're not hurting for choices. It just comes down to who which town has the best location to launch multiple entertaining loops and has access to good lodging.

Pleasanton, CA. It is more affordable than most other cities in the East Bay, incredibly safe, well managed, and  pretty. There are well maintained highways and back roads. 

It also has quick access to airports, motorcycle shops, quaint downtowns, beaches, mountains, twisty roads, vineyards, The Muir Woods, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

And if someone wanted to ship a motorcycle, I could serve as a depot for both receiving and returning the motorcycle.

Ah ok, I misunderstood then. That's like right outside SF. I was looking at the depopulated part of the state like Redding and Weaverville. Up there it looks like you have twisty remote goodness in every direction.

In 2017 after being asked to hold a central rally we held the rally in Arkansas. If I remember correctly only 5 or 6 of us showed up

We were in the middle of the Arkansas Rally on this date in 2017.  There was a lot of enthusiasm for this Rally early on, but it waned as we got closer to the date.  I think we had as many as 15/20 riders committed in January/February and I think we had a total of 8 riders who spent at least one night at the hotel.   There was one other guy who stopped for a day-he was riding cross-country on this CB1100 if I recall.  

There is some of the best riding in the US within 100 miles of Eureka Springs, AR.   It's really too bad that it's so far from where most of the more active members of this forum live.
