I bought a user-friendly LS2 Scope modular in Germany earlier this year at 130€, comfortable, easy to use with sunglasses, good test results, and so you don't need to spend 700 bugs.

I found a way to secure the helmet neatly (have to release the seat) without an adapter. If you're interested I can send a photo.

Unlocking is certainly a concern, thanks for the link to Sharp testing! I wonder if the results means that a helmet opens with the locking lever in the locked position (by sheer force ?), or whether it means in an accident the locking lever gets moved (e.g. while sliding across the asphalt ?).

I find a 70% latch, as they call it at Sharp, highly unlikely as a real world test result. It would mean that in 10 different accident scenarios the helmet has opened 7 times. If this is reported in a test, it would indicate that this test really focuses on one specific kind of accident or impact. After looking at the Sharp procedure I find this confirmed:
all Sharp tests are high force penetration tests, IF this was part of your accident scenario it still DOES NOT mean that if the helmet gets unlocked it actually opens. They say explicitly "Latch% = Percentage of impacts where the face guard remained fully locked", that is not the same as open.

I will keep using my modular, or replace it with a better one in the future. The advantages (for me!) are enormous, and yes, this comes with an extra risk.

I thought it was 70% closed- so 30% unlatched.

Thanks for the clarification that unlatched </= open.

I went with a Shoei Glamster because I want all the protection I can get.

Having crashed and all 3 sides of my helmet scraped- the latching thing scared me away.

- and it also weighs a LOT less than a modular which I can really feel when riding.

Neotec is 3.85lbs Glamster is 2.67

I didn't think I would feel the difference as much as I do- but I like it.

This is about helmets with a European style ratchet/buckle. They can't be used with the Honda supplied helmet lock (mine has it too) under the seat lock on the left side of the bike. Neither the ratchet nor the buckle can be hocked into the lock's pin. Therefor the posts.

I am glad you explained it, and ... no, I had no idea. Could it be that the later models don't have it anymore ?
And, are you saying that your hock under the seat works with the EU buckle ?

My Shark helmet has an EU ratchet buckle. There's a little webbing loop on it that will slide over the helmet lock on the left side of the bike, although it's fiddly.
This is the second lock on the earlier models. It's just in front of the hook for the seat to lock into on the right hand side.

For tonight I can only describe it, my Honda is already in hibernation for the winter (didn't think about this when I wrote 'photo'). But see if the description works for you - if not let me know.

I release the seat with the key, lift/loosen it a little. On the right side of the Honda (the left doesn't work) I feed the helmet strap with the ratchet (or teeth) from the top around the horizontal frame/bar just exposed by lifting the seat. Holding the helmet with my knees, the mentioned strap with my left hand, I reach with my right hand for the other strap (the one with the buckle), and join ratchet and buckle. A push on the seat to lock it and I am done.

Why is this good (enough) ? The geometry is such that, when compared to the useless helmet lock on the left, the straps are much tighter and harder to reach when the seat is down. And the helmet's underside is firmly positioned against frame and seat. This position makes it also very hard for the goofs to leave "gifts".

Open the helmet window and drop off a "gift". Close helmet window.
