Douglas C-47 I think. One of the most useful aircraft ever produced and many still flying today.

All the more reason that a CB1100 should be in the same photo. Wink

Yes, it is a Douglas DC-3. It is a monument to a first allied airfield in the first liberated area in Slovenia in WWII. That plane has carried many injured people to safety.

Nice shot, bosti!

Just so happens i caught one of these taking off in Auckland.
It's for hire for trips around the area and whatever the customer wants it for, a real treat to hear it come overhead.

here's a screen grab and the video of it has just finished downloading.

Handheld, big zoom so yes, it shakes a little.

I got the rare opportunity to skydive out of a DC-3 in '98 in Perris Valley, CA - it was an awesome experience. I was the first guy out the door so I had to hang onto a bar on the fuselage while waiting for everyone else to get into position for the dive. Afterwards I noticed my jump suit was covered in oil from the engine. I was amazed that it could still fly spewing that much oil.

What a great historic plane.

[url=http://www.buffaloairways.com/]Buffalo Airlways operate from Yellowknife in Canada's North West Territories. The company's flagship aircraft are the Second World War-era DC-3s and DC-4s, as seen on TV's [url=https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ice+pilots+season+6+full+episodes+]Ice Pilots NWT for six seasons.

It's typical to put large barrels or catch pans under the engines when parked. In flight, they generally burn/leak about a gallon of oil per hour. Big Grin

I'm also a big fan of the Gooney Bird. Many are still at work, over 80 years after the type first flew in 1935.

I saw this one at West Yellowstone a few years back. It's been converted to turboprop engines and delivers smoke jumpers to forest fires every summer.

When I was first starting out flying I always wanted to fly the 3 until I saw one being loaded one day and realised everything you put in it has to be pushed uphill.....never did fly one!

It was cold, dry and sunny but beatiful over a length of 87km. And smokin'. Two bikers crossed my way, one on aTransalp, the other on a BMW Rninet. Both doing the same coldtest round 0° as I did. We could stand it.

I once flew with Clay Lacy in his "Mainliner O'Connor" DC-3. It's a marvelous plane. Nowhere near as noisy as one might imagine, although the entire interior had been redone by Synchro Aviation with plenty of soundproofing. I had not ridden my CB1100 to the airport that time as I hadn't purchased it yet.

It seemed to lift into the air effortlessly. He did some very steep turns and it was clear the plane was a pilot's aircraft.

And of course, he greased it right in on [url=http://www.onesixright.com]One Six Right.

I like how the CB1100 stands out on the side cover of the bottom pic
