When the sun got lower, some clouds moved in and the breeze picked up, I took a ride to Oyster Harbor (pronounced Oysta Haabah)

I pass this Osprey nest often. Last week there were fledglings to be seen.....they must have fledged.

RE: Let's see your CB1100 out on the road!

Last Saturday I woke up early , took the bike and head north just in time to catch the sun dawn over the estuary of the Loxahatchee river. It was pretty quiet except for a photographer with all his gear -tripod included- capturing that magnificent moment. I'm sure he got a more impressive image than the one I took with my phone, but in any case... a good start for the morning ride!Thumbs Up

The lighthouse that can be (hardly) seen in the middle of the picture is [url=http://www.jupiterlighthouse.org/index.html]Jupiter's inlet lighthouse, built in 1860 and official emblem of the town of Jupiter.

I kept going north for a little longer until getting to Stuart, and then I headed West through the 714 SW Martin County Hwy. This road, as most of the ones in South Florida is straight and flat -meaning boring-, but the suburban environment of recent housing developments built in the frenzy construction of the early 2000's suddenly changes to a rural landscape of farms and cows. For a while it seems that you are far way north, with actual trees -no palm trees- covering the narrow road like a canopy.

This shadowy area lowers the temperature notably, which is very much appreciated by air cooled motorcycle riders during the torrid Florida Summer.

Kept riding West until I found US 98/441 that runs along the levees of the East shore of [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Okeechobee]lake Okeechobee, where I turned South, enjoying the almost empty road with few bumps and very wide turns until Port Mayaca. The Okeechobee is the largest freshwater lake completely within a single one of the lower 48 states (Wikipedia), and it holds a considerable amount of water although being very shallow. The water level is controlled by channels, gates and levees built in the 1930's as part of the Herbert Hoover Dike.

The picture is taken at the side of the Port Mayaca Lock and Dam, that controls the water flow to the St. Lucie Canal, the East branch of the [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okeechobee_Waterway#Port_Mayaca_Lock_and_Dam]Okeechoobe waterway.
After that I headed back home, and arrived just before the typical afternoon storm. Can't complain about that either!Big Grin
