Six weeks ago yesterday, I had a total hip replacement. Still a little gimpy but I had my six week checkup today and when I asked about activities that were still proscribed motorcycling wasn't on the list. Honestly I have taken a few short rides earlier in the week, being careful getting on and off.
So this afternoon I rode over to Black Butte Reservoir and back, about 60 miles. It was great! I have had a hip problem for years that resulted in serious pain after less than an hour in the saddle. Riding is now pain free and flexibility makes riding much more pleasant.
Wish I had had this done before the West Coast Rally last year! I look forward to more seat time with exuberance!

Congratulations, Ben. How good is it to be able to ride more comfortably?

Awesome. The freedom must feel incredible ... but be careful still.

I can't be more enthusiastic! When I got my CB after a layoff of many years, I was disappointed with the discomfort, but put it down to general aging and decided I would rather ride with pain than not for as long as I could. I never thought an arthritic, worn out hip was the problem, but one day about a year ago a severe pain caused me to get an X-ray showing a bad hip.
It wasn't a "good time" for me to be out of commission so I put it off to this Spring.
I know everyone is different and hate to recommend a procedure just because it worked for me, but if you are on the fence about getting a hip fixed, do it. Anterior approach. I am thrilled, and was told today that in another six weeks it will be twice as good.
In short, Cormanus, it is great! I am looking forward to more riding with enthusiasm.

Sounds fantastic Ben, good to hear you had a big improvement and quick recovery as well, just hope the joints were torqued to spec and nothing wriggles loose, guess you made it to the hippy list after all.
Good of you to spread the good news and all the best!

As my right hip has been tight the last few years, but still quite tolerable, I read with interest your comments. Very glad that it has worked out well for you! May your recovery indeed be "twice as good" soon.
