Yes they have a chase vehicle. You drop off your luggage to the van in the morning, and it is waiting for you IN your room when you get to the next hotel.

There tends to be 3 groups. The fast guys, the intermediate guys and the slower guys. That's inevitable. Everyone rides at their own pace. But the ride leader stops at any direction changes and waits for everyone to catch up before moving on. I was in the intermediate group on our tour. i rode at a pace comfortable for me and didn't worry about those ahead, or behind. The fast group was buddy competition pace, probably speed limit +- 10 to 15...my group was speed limit +- 5... Slow group was speed limit -5. There were two guys in their mid 70 s in the slow group. I never felt uncomfortable that I recall,and even though I would lose site of the front group. They were always waiting for us when we needed them.

They get all levels of skill and experience on their tours. They are used to it, and can accommodate it.

Pterodactyl..my wife and I did a 9 day tour with Edelweiss in 2010 and got to ride in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria as well as France and Lichtenstein and without question Austria was my wife's and I favorite country as far as roads and beauty go.

I would really love to ride in Australia and New Zealand one day.

Ferret...was Edelweiss as good as it looks and sounds?

Gheil, Edelweiss was great. Good guides, good hotels, good meals, the riding days weren't too long or too short, they knew where to go, how to get to the interesting places and good roads without wasting time. We were really pleased. Great way to negotiate foreign countries where you do not know the languages, customs, menus etc. It was pricey though for someone of my financial means. I saved for 10 years for the trip. Worth every penny to me.

Some don't want to be led around by the nose, they want to explore at their own pace, so they pooh pooh the idea of riding in a group at a certain pace ( which was pretty quick I might add) but my wife and I really enjoyed being taken care of. We did spend a couple days on each end exploring on our own by foot, bus and train around Germany.

If I had a lot more money I'd let Edelweiss guide me around a lot of countries..Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Scotland, Ireland, Italy would be high on my list and I'd go back to Europe in a heartbeat Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and Lichtenstein were awesome.

I'm of the same mind as Ferret: I enjoy riding by myself or with my buddies here in the States but last summer I signed up for a two week tour of Vietnam and the Ho Chi Minh Trail leaving in a couple weeks (I'm landing in Vietnam on 26th January). This Vietnam trip should be interesting because in addition to the tourguide the only riders will be me and my two neighbors with whom I've ridden several times over the past few years -- we booked the trip as a group -- we are really comfortable riding as a group.

Cant wait for the ride report. Riding in Nam should be very interesting and cool. Travel safe my good man. Btw how long is the flight to Vietnam?

Thanks Ferret, I'll try to post a couple notes while on the road. The flight is about 16 hours from NYC to Hong Kong and then an hour and a half from Hong Kong to Hanoi.

I did a tour in '69, transport arrangements were, in most cases, looked after by LBJ's fleet of UH-1s or Big Daddies. As for going back; many can, I can't. I prefer Thailand or Cambode, the food is spicier.

Thanks Pterry. If you ever put together a bike tour of your stated preference for Cambodia or Thailand, keep me in mind because I could be a buyer in that market; I spent a week in both countries a couple years ago and loved it. I think I'm too old for the UH-1s, though.
