A Ride to Jacksonville

US-17 is a truly nice ride. The stretch between Midway and Darien is my favorite. Have a safe trip Jonathan.

Not an especially exciting destination but my dealer, Cycles of Jacksonville had called to say my Pilot Road 3 tires were in so I headed out early this morning with the intention of taking coastal US-17 and avoiding the traffic rush on I-95. The weather was lovely at about 60F and clear skies. US-17 had very light traffic and I only had to use a short section of I-295.





While waiting for my tires the I had plenty of time to browse the showroom. Cycles of Jacksonville carries Triumph, Aprilia and Moto Guzzi and there were a lot of bikes in stock but one really got my attention. The shop owner has done his own take on a CB1100. Beautifully done in the Gulf Oil racing team colors worn by Ford GT's and later, Porsche 917's for International endurance racing in the late 60's and early 70's.







Skies turned gray and the wind picked up to about 20mph on the way home-a real contrast to the morning. Stopped on the Florida side of the draw bridge that spans the St Mary's River for a few photos then had a burger at Steffen's Diner in Kingsland, GA.









The Satilla River and only 12 more miles to home. I think I'm going to like the new tires.

G'day again 'Birds, very good photos. Looking at the one above you will surely enjoy scrubbing those newies in. I wonder how the 120/70 fronts will go. Do you feel any difference to the turn in when you go to lay it over? Of course, if you brought your bike to NC we would get to know .

Green caps...nitrogen inflation? Big tire company up here uses those green caps on every car they use nitrogen inflation on.

Cycles of Jacksonville sell all their bikes with nitrogen in the tires. If it makes a difference I certainly can't tell. The tires seem just as subject to temperature change variance as air filled tires. The most important thing is to have an air drier in-line for pressurized air.

Our roads around here give little opportunity to test the real performance of tires. A trip to the mountains will be a good test. I have not even had the bike out since my last report. Too many projects around home, painting mostly, but we intend to ride some today. There is a road near home with a few good curves. I'll take that one today for sure. My road out front is in terrible condition. The road grader guys (county employees) quit two weeks ago and our road is a mess of deep ruts and sand. Might have to trailer out to the paved road.
