Following the Rideau River
#1

Yesterday August 1st was a beautiful day for riding. Rather than set a route and schedule, I decided to bring my camera and just follow the Rideau River.

Oh, the joy of owning a CB1100 and living in beautiful countryside.

Thanks Nortoon.

Very nice pictures that I recognize.

I live in Metcalfe and often ride the CB1100 (or God forbid the Africa Twin) along the Rideau river to Merrickville for lunch.

Some familiar "small town Ontario" images.

Marc:

I wish to understand the context of, " ... forbid the Africa Twin". Ugly - okay, but what mean?

Do you ride Donnelly Drive or the River Road?

I tried to include text for those pictures. But when I did the pictures showed up as little boxes.

Pic 10 is on the River Road just west of the Kemptville bridge.
Pic 11 The bridge at Burritts Rapids with a kayaker enjoying the river.
Pic 12 is at the Merrickville locks with the highway 43 swing bridge open to let that big cruiser pass through the locks.
Pic 13 a family wading in the overflow stream next to the locks.
Pic 14 the old railway lift bridge in Smiths Falls near the locks.

Pic 1 is at the Portland Marina south of Smiths Falls.
Pic 2 is on the Burnt Hills Road overlooking Little Cranberry Lake.
Pix 3 and 4 are the bridge open to let a pontoon boat on Cranberry Lake through.
Pic 5 is a swampy ravine on the Burnt Hills Road.

Pic 6 is a similar ravine on Perth Road 10.
Pix 7 and 8 are Buck Lake on the Perth Road.
Pic 9 is the Upper Rideau Lake at the end of the Perth Road in Westport.

The afternoon ride was not as picturesque. But I did pick up a medium sized snapping turtle off the Mountain Road above Westport. If it was any bigger it would not have fit in the top box. It probably did not like the noisy ride, but I found a small lake for it about a kilometer up the road. No fingers were harmed in this rescue.

It was yesterday. But today (Friday) is the start of the August Holiday Weekend. The roads, tourist towns, rivers and lakes will be busy places. I am sure everyone with a cottage, boat or motorcycle will be out enjoying the good weather. Excited
