It's almost more amazing in hindsight, ferret. We were so busy and covering so much varied ground that it was hard to absorb it all. When I'm retired I will definitely be spending more time out West.

That's the good thing about taking lots of photos. A good way to remember good times.

Thank, guys, it was a wonderful adventure!

One thing I learned: I don't really mind riding on dirt roads if it means I get to see things I otherwise could not. But I have to say, I don't think I would make a habit of riding dirt just for the sake of being on dirt. It was always so nice to get back on smooth tarmac after a romp in the gravel.

LOL on tonight's ride I turned on a road that had recently been tar and chipped. Tiny little stones, some loose just laying on the surface. I couldn't wait to get back on hard smooth asphalt

can't even imagine riding on some of the "roads" in your pics, even on my upcoming mini ADV ROFL

Eeeww! Not much worse than fresh tar and chips. The stones stick to the tires and every "tink!" means a little black dot of tar on your bike.

Imagine the guys riding far worse than this on early 1910s motorcycles on tires having almost no tread! Having the 50/50 tires made a huge difference...would not want to try this on smooth street-only tires.

Those guys were real adventuers. Riding where there were poor or no roads, few or no gas stations, on motorcycles of questionable reliability, with poor ignitions, poor lighting, total loss oil systems, terrible tires and tube

Rear adventurers!

Very nice ride report, thank you !
But honestly, 4 cheese weasels and not one of them owns a CB1100 ? (at least the pictures I've seen show nothing but a few poor 2-cylinder engines - my apology in advance. Also worried about the long sitting and diet combined, this could easily help getting your BMI up from X to X+5 in a matter of a few weeks Wink

What a brilliant trip and adventure Stichill. So great you did it now too as you can save up to much to do "when you retire"! Who knows what other life pressures will be around later on in life. I have visited the States many times in my life being ex Merchant Navy (aka Merchant Marine) and Honeymooned on the West Coast on a 10 day four wheeled road trip. I am always amazed at the wildly varied landscape in that huge continent, thanks for bringing that portion of it to life, great journey.
