Maybe bus rear-enders are cause by the fact that they are huge blinders for whatever is in front of them?
I don't like to follow busses or vans, because I can't see past them to gauge traffic conditions up ahead. If traffic is slowing, and you're following a bus close enough that you can't see around it, you'd possibly hit it if it stops suddenly and you're not paying close enough attention. Only reason I can think of.

Often following a bus gives you a lung full of diesel.

I have been rear ended in the last 24 months once in my car, once on my CB, and my wife once in her car, all sitting stopped at stop lights. No injuries thankfully, and all the culprits were insured. My CB hit was light, basically bending the rear fender, and cracking the tail light and mount. Personally, I believe in each instance, the drivers that hit us were texting.
I did have to fight with the womans insurance company, because the adjuster did not know diddly about motorcycles. Fortunately the shop was ultimately able to make the adjuster understand the extent of the damage. I can tell you from my experience, use a shop that has Honda trained and certified mechanics for the repair. All mechanics, whether car or motorcycle, are not created equal.
In addition to brake flashing others have mentioned, I now wear a High Viz orange vest over whatever I am wearing, religiously, in an attempt to be more visible to the knuckleheads we have to share the road with.

Hey everyone I suffered lots of damage on the bike and traded it in. Unfortunately there were no cb1100's around me, and I wound up picking up a cb1000r - for now. I still miss the cb1100 and will be looking for another one. Maybe a 2020 version?

Don’t believe you can post on the For Sale section unless you’ve met the minimum number of posts.

Huh, ... welcome to the Forum audiomanipulator.
I hope the CB1000R is enough to tie you over in the meantime.
