I'm not sure about the song, pdedse, but I like 'dry as a Pommy's bath mat'. Pom or Pommie can be both affectionate and critical. Of course.

I hadn't heard the connection to Pomegranate. Is doesn't quite work for me as the term is applied to folk from the UK rather than immigrants generally. The usual one trotted out is that the convicts brought to Australia by the British wore clothes marked with POHM (Prisoner of His Majesty). The other I recall from my childhood is that the French referred to the English as pommes de terre, but I see no reference to that anywhere now.

Perhaps you read [url=https://www.countrylife.co.uk/comment-opinion/curious-questions-australians-call-british-poms-200250]this article?

Haha...that's a funny article, tho' not what I found when searching for "pommie". I particularly like the following:

"These fruits, between the size of a lemon and a grapefruit, have a characteristic which might hold the key: when they ripen in the sun, they go red — rather like the newly-arrived immigrants after they arrived, pasty-faced and somewhat green about the gills. After coming off the ships to be assaulted by the full force of the sun and Australia’s strong ultra-violet rays, newly-arrived Brits had a tendency to go red as lobsters and were easily distinguishable from the more sun-hardened, bronzed Aussies who had been there for a while and were acclimatised to the rigours of the climate."

Anyway, don't mean to take your road report off track, it's just funny how mention of this or that (country music in Australia) can take one down an unexpected internet path.

Because of it's color, maybe I'll start calling my CB1100 "pommie-granite".

Always enjoy your ride reports Cormanus and its good to see Pterodactyl is well and still tiding his CB.

Not as many weird location names in this report, well names that we would find weird.

If i were a decade or two younger I'd consider a trip down under to ride along with you.

I tried once. Inhouse Bob turned up. We rode on many a decent road, but it rained a lot!
