Russell Seat anyone?
#1

Are there any Cb1100 riders out there that have or will have a Russell Day Long seat? They have been making motorcycle seats for a while now and I always hear some good things about them. If so, please chime in and let us CB1100 riders hear about it. By the way guys; I like my CB1100 better than my 2011 BMW RT1200. And my 2011 Victory Crossroads that came after the BMW. So think about that one!!

God Bless..

The very next mod I will do is contact Russell Day Long and set up a build date.My best guess $605 in all leather done in solo style will suit me just fine. I've owned three Russell seats - best thing you can do for your ass. Unless you like pain and torture - if you do I suggest the yellow pages of any large city can provide those services.

I had my seat done by Seth Lamm. Seth worked for Rick Myers who's dad was the original owner of Russel Day Long before he sold it back in the 80's. Its the same concept as a Russell just not as extreme. Seat is extremely comfortable for hours at a time at a great price.

If you have never sat on a Russell seat, here are some things you may want to consider. You may get a lot of raving testimonials about their comfort, but most of those happy customers are owners of large cruisers or Gold Wings. Not as many people have put
Russell seats on standards and sport touring bikes, and generally for good reason. The seat will still be incredibly comfortable, but not in all situations...with the comfort comes compromises Sad

I had the sport version of the Russel with smaller "wings" on my CBF1000, and while it was possibly the most comfortable seat while riding, even those smaller support wings make it difficult to put your feet directly to ground and I am 6'-1". You need to slide forward on the seat as much as possible at a stop or the wings cut into your legs.

I would not hesitate to put a Russel seat on a cruiser with an already extremely low seat and where your legs are positioned forward. However, they are not ergonomically conducive to put your legs straight down as required with a standard or sport touring bike. The wings also make spirited driving difficult, as you will not be able to readily shift your weight or re-position yourself much on the seat. Shorter riders will have more severe issues with the Russell, especially on a standard style bike like the CB1100 as it will be next to impossible to clear the wings at a stop.

If you want the most comfortable seat for long cruises or trips, the Russell is hard to beat, but you might want to keep a stock seat around for any other type of riding.

Just picked up a used RDL for my Griso (communication broke down with Laam, my first choice then I ran into a killer deal on the used RDL). Short rides around town, royal pain in the parking lot and at red lights. The wings dig into the thighs and I have crunsh up to avoid them. Once on the road all is fine. Uglier that a bag full of dog farts (to quote Pete) but oh my, what a fine bum rest. Doing a 500 ride in a few weeks so that will be the acid test.

The seat looks a LOT like leather, once cleaned up it felt like leather, but it's not. Mine is a dual seat version which I don't need so I may have it converted to solo (and have brown/burnt sienna side panels used - just for looks). The rear bucket interferes with my Giant Loop, my favorite travel pack and Eclipse saddle bags as well as after market rear racks (or so it would appear). It would improve the looks too.

Be prepared to be mercifully teased by your co-riders for putting such an eye sore on your bike. But your bum will thank you. Long winded way of saying, keep a stock seat for in town riding. Big Grin

I'm still considering the Laam seat for the CB but that will have to wait until fall.

Wow, that's the full deal standard Russell Day-Long seat with maximum sized wings! I cannot believe they didn't suggest the sport version on which the wings are substantially smaller, yet provide a great deal of support.

I appreciate that it must be incredibly comfortable when riding, but how on earth do you comfortably put your feet down at a stop?

I send it back once to get it to lean more to the back. It turned out just great!!! I may try the sport type seat on my next bike. Jayimpalaman
