So I recently bought a barely used standard 2013 cb1100. Put 100 miles on it first day out, 2nd day the battery died,but thankfully the dealer was nearby, picked it up with their van, drove me home and replaced the battery with a new one, then delivered the bike all at no charge. Now that I have some time to ride it I have to say this is an amazing machine. I've had cruisers b4 and also a 2003 Z1000 and a 2005 Z750s. You had to rev the z's to get real power i.e downshift and then they moved, especially the z1000 which was insane after 7000rpm.
THIS bike however has power almost whenever you need it, I never would have guessed an inline 4 would pull so hard at low rpms. Also, I was amazed that going up a fairly long steep incline on hwy 80 in the Sierra foothills I opened it up in top gear going 80 and this thing pulled hard to 90+ with my 330 pound bulk on it really fast. I am so darn happy with this bike!!!!!!!!!!! Worlds best kept secret when it comes to great motorcycles?

A few years ago when my CB was still somewhat new to me I was coming back from a visit to the Oregon coast. Heading back east on State Highway 26 there are some big sweeping turns as you head fairly steeply uphill over the coast range complete with a veryyy long passing lane. So I used that opportunity to take advantage of the much needed passing lane. (There are always plenty of RVs and big camper trailers coming back from the coast.) Before I knew it I was WAY over the speed limit as I was trying to get ahead of the last of the large slow moving vehicles with nothing but open road ahead and plenty of other motorists behind me hoping to do the same.

That was about the time I saw the state trooper sitting on the other side of the road. I was certain that he had seen me. After my heart dislodged itself from my throat it proceeded to sink into the pit of my stomach. I had already intended to slow down after making that final pass, but now I contemplated just pulling over. I cruised along for quite a long while before I realized that there was to be no pursuit. I enjoyed the rest of the ride home with a normal heartbeat intact.

To be honest, that was very much out of character for me. I just don't tend to speed in an aggressive manner very often. I've never owned a radar detector in my life for that matter. But in that particular case I got carried away as I was just plain having fun experiencing the CB1100 pulling me up that steep pass all lickity-split with no problems at all. While it's no excuse, it was all so effortless that I really had no idea just how fast I was going. It is true that there are plenty of faster bikes out there than the CB1100, but this bike is more than fast enough for me, speed limiter and all.

Well, if I'm being honest in a word — yes. I am usually very aware of things like the speed at which I am traveling and my surroundings, whether on two wheels or four. I don't like it when I catch my conscious self out of the loop after the fact. Fortunately it doesn't happen very often.

I am willing to bet it happens often enough with many non-aggressive riders. It is like, "... jeez, for the one time I speed to avert danger or a herd of dubious cages and an officer has to be parked right there just in time for a photo finish smile ... ". Fortunately, I have heard none who were pulled over for that.

I'm not a speeder either, but I like to ride in a spirited manner - even at my age
That said, once in a while I get so caught up in the smoothness of the bike and how effortless it rides that I suddenly find myself in ticket country and have to rein it in before some expensive paper happens
