RE: Staintune Exhaust

I realize that aftermarket exhausts do not appeal to everyone (and there are a number of them that don't appeal all that much to me). But as far as I'm concerned, Staintune hit a home run with their slip-on exhaust for the CB1100. The only downside is the price which by any measure is exorbitantly high. But for that price you receive a finely crafted unit that is like a work of art — high grade materials and hardware that beautifully constructed with no rivets to be found and no packing to be replaced down the road.

A few weeks ago just for fun I swapped the Staintune out for the factory unit. I'd been running the Staintune long enough that I couldn't remember what the riding experience was like without it. As I've mentioned before, I don't mind the factory setup. It looks just fine and sounds alright. But the reality for me is that the factory setup is missing the "soul" that the Staintune lends to the whole riding experience. A couple of days ago, I reinstalled the Staintune unit and that familiar extra stretch of grin immediately returned to my face. While it's not really all that much louder than the stock exhaust and any performance gains are minimal, it's the tone of the Staintune that makes all of the difference for me. It is simply music to my ears and makes the riding experience that much more enjoyable.

You know it's funny because I'll never forget the conversation with my wife right after I purchased the Staintune (I actually brought it home with the box strapped down to the back of my CB so it really stood out). There was no logical explanation for spending that kind of money for something to replace a perfectly good part on a then brand new motorcycle. Such an explanation still eludes me. Yet you are right, I've been totally happy with the purchase and have yet to see, or hear, another option that I personally would prefer over the Staintune for the CB.

I got such a chuckle out of your statement that I couldn't resist quoting it in my sig. It's really funny to think about, but it says a lot about those who ride year round (and are lucky enough to be able to do so) and how much we like to ride.

Agree with that. When I first became aware of the Staintune, one of the things I liked was that to the untrained eye, it still looked very much like a stock setup, yet gave out that great sound. With passing time, my attitude shifted. Now, the fact that it is so stock looking bothers me in that it feels as if I would be paying huge bucks for pretty much a sound change alone. If I actually saw (and heard) one in person, it may change my mind. For now, I keep eyeing the Tadao pipe. Wish we had more folks here that already had one, and were singing it's praises as much as the Staintune!

Gentlemen,

I've had this exhaust on for over a year now. I've swapped out a lot of parts on my CB and I was going to go with a total exhaust system after the Staintune. But it sounds so good that I won't ever swap it out. I've owned a lot of motorcycles and have 8 in my garage currently. The Staintune is the best sounding and best built slip on I have ever owned on any bike. An outstanding device.

Chip

Thanks! That was really helpful.

My thoughts exactly. All very subjective I will admit. In addition I feel that it suits "the look".

RE: Staintune Exhaust

Ready to pull the trigger on a staintune, wanted to check the site for anything new.

Just got the bike back from replacing the O2 sensor after I destroyed the old one removing it. Better to have a tool, which the local dealer didn't have. ( and didn't seem to get it either why one was needed) but I let the dealer order a new one and install. All for the tidy sum of $350.

Why was I pulling the old one out? Got the cat removed from the header in prep for the slip on.

So far, still thinking I'll go with the Staintune. Any recent suggestions from folks that have bought them?

To my fellow Staintune owners, is this spring mounting bolt in contact with the pipe on your bikes? I just noticed this today while inspecting the rear pads.
