Put bike on centerstand
#41
The CB does have a serious side stand spring. Surprised me at first the way it snapped up when kicked. WHAM!

I really wish you lived near my neck of the city so we could do this trick together. I'd make you a "Centerstand Master" in about 5 minutes...and two beers. :-)

Regardless of what the manual says, your right hand will not move in relation to your body positioning. The motorcycle will come "up and back" due to the lever action of the centerstand and the rotation it goes through. But your right hand will maintain a lifting motion straight up, everything moves to the right as a result of that action. So your right hand and the motorcycle will move to the right away from you. You won't be physically pushing to the right with your right hand. By the time that's occurring, the bike is on the stand, and everything is coming to a stop.

I wish you luck on mastering the technique.

Oh so now it's " regardless of what the Manual says " when before
it was ALL ABOUT WHAT THE MANUAL SAYS.
Now yer the one stretching to the point of explaining what I
never said.Explaining in detail all about right this and right that
and here a right and there a right.Everywhere a right right.
Can't I make a statement w/o some clique trying to point
out as if anally retentive every little detail of where's I'm
wrong.
I get it.I'm the new whipping boy on the block.I have to prove myself and my loyalty to this club of clubs.
I couldn't put the bike up on the centerstand the first few tries.
And I ended up nearly spraining my back in the process.
Yes,I was doing something wrong.I think it had to be the fact
I had the sidestand down.Because when I tried again with the\ sidestand up it felt totally easier.

Foolardi you are a piece of work. Don't you have a wife to pick a fight with?

With the side stand down, a person might have the bike leaned over on it which would make it very awkward and difficult to operate the center stand. With the side stand up, a person would have to balance the bike on its wheels which would make it easy to operate the center stand. Just an idea...not intended to create any stress or drama.

Here is the way that makes sense to me. First you have to stop the bike and get off of it before you put the center stand down. That's a given no debate. I don't EVER get off a bike without putting the side stand down before getting off the bike. YOU may do differently but I always do. Might be because I am an old fart but that side stand is down before I get off no matter what.

So from that point I think it makes absolutely no difference at all if the side stand is down or up but for me I leave it down because in a worse case situation if I feel the bike becoming unbalanced I can always tip the bike back over to the side stand. (Belts and suspenders). On the CB1100 the side stand does not block the center stand nor is it in the way to use the center stand (on some bikes in may be in the way).

I then STAND on the center stand tab while pulling up with my right hand on the passenger grab handle. Using the leg more then the arm. I pull back a little with my left hand which obviously is on the left hand grip and the bike rocks back on the center stand easily. The TRICK is using your WEIGHT on the center stand to do the majority of the work. If I can do it any one can.

So many good methods. All of which if followed properly you shouldn't get injured. If you get injured something must be getting done wrong.

That week was too short!

I think that the CB1100 is one of the easiest bikes to put on the center stand, easier than a CBX or a CB1000 but even they never gave me a problem.
I will give up riding motor cycles if I can not put them on the centerstand anymore ! (I am 63)

Mid 70 beemers you could take either wheel off on the centerstand it was so perfectly placed on the balance point of the motorcycle. How cool of an engineering idea is that?
