When I put on a Staintune I blocked the PAIR Valve to eliminate decel popping and I bypassed the O2 sensor with a Sensor Bypass Plug to richen up the bottom end. Both processes are quite well documented on this forum in the "how to" section and easily searchable.

I didn't have much decel popping with the Staintune, but with a short pipe like you want, you probably would.

is there a practical reason to avoid decel popping, or is it just a thing to do?

It is largely a personal preference. Some like it, and if your intention is to make your bike more noticeable, then keep the popping.

Popping usually only occurs when rolling off the throttle or decelerating, so it is not necessarily an indication that you are running dangerously lean all the time.

There are various ways to prevent decel popping:
1) Eliminate air leaks in the exhaust.
2) Bypass the injection of fresh air in the exhaust to burn off pollutants - by Popping! (Block PAIR Valve)
3) Use a fuel manager (i.e. Power Commander) to richen the A/F mixture just off idle.
4) On some bikes like the CB1100, using an 02 Sensor Bypass Plug also richens the mix just off idle and may help (in conjunction with blocking the PAIR Valve).

I agree with the Hi Viz gear, and I agree with the fact that it is your bike and you should do what you like with it, and what suits you. I also agree with the feeling that if someone wants your lane, let them have it as you will not win an argument in a motorcycle VS car situation. That said, you did ask for feedback/opinions. There have been several threads here about whether or not loud pipes increase safety/visibility. I have never found it to be true that loud pipes are a deterrent in most ( not all ) cases, and one of the previous threads has the science to back it up. Bear in mind I rode a fairly loud Harley for the 10 years preceding my CB1100. If you are driving your car, and someone tries to merge into your lane, what do you do? You hit the horn. And, more often than not when a car tries to merge into your lane ( whether in your car or on your motorcycle ) , you are in the cars blind spot, which means you are around the rear quarter panel of the car, and your horn is projecting sound forward whereas your exhaust is projecting sound behind you. Here is a link that was included in previous posts about the subject that makes sense to me, although there will always be opinions to the contrary. https://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/st...save-lives . Regardless, it is your bike and you should do what you like and want with it.

I dont wanna take the " room temperature challenge" because people don't look for bikers lol
Btw, the GP exhaust I'm looking at is from Radiant cycles. I'm hearing mixed reviews. Not sure if it will lean the bike out too much or not....

You think and ride like I do, John! Thumbs UpThumbs Up

JH, you seriously stuff your pockets with ceramic pieces and ball bearings to hurl at other vehicles?

Personally, I find it hard to even reach for the horn when I'm in the midst of a defensive maneuver and have both hands on the bars in a "death grip"!

I admit that some car and truck drivers have made me quite angry or even made me fear for my life, but, when exactly would you be reaching into your pocket to find your "anti-personnel shrapnel"? Do you eject it like fighter jet chaff in anticipation of an accident? Or, do you wait for an opportune moment to exact vengeance on a tin canner (who, in most cases, was probably just inattentive). If the latter, then that just encourages hatred of bikers. What happens the next time they see you in traffic? And, hopefully, I won't be travelling the same road after you have littered it with ball bearings!

...sorry if this sounds "preachy", but I'm getting older and crankier...and apparently of the same mind as LongRanger! Wink

Gumby, point well taken about littering the road surface with ball bearings -- I hadn't considered that.

What I was considering is this act is a felony in the U.S. If caught, the OP could face criminal charges, including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and second degree murder if it results in an accident which causes death. I wasn't sure if he was kidding or not.

I honestly didn't even consider the legal implications. With so many people using dash cams these days, it wouldn't be hard to convict with video evidence.

And to think that I was more worried about biker etiquette and the good reputation of CB riders! Wink

The ball bearings & shattered ceramic are just for in the event that someone is actively trying to run me off the road... that being said, i only carry 2 bearings and a small handful of ceramic. As for louder pipes...I have noticed that giving a simple rev tends to push Cagers back into their rightful lane.... assuming they can actually hear it. Where I live there are some pretty idiotic drivers. I'm sure everyone says that to some degree about there local roads but we do have a noticeably higher accident rating in Fredericksburg Virginia compared to other places. All that being said... I'm simply looking for the answer to a rather technical question in regarding a modification. I believe I have found my answer! Again, I appreciate y'alls input!
