K17 grab rail
#1

I had to remove the grab rail on my CB as a result of accident damage.
I've been looking at this...
https://www.bikermart.co.uk/Honda-CB1100...ggage-Rack
A grabrail and rear rack all in one (the pannier rails aren't included).

I'm undecided as to whether it will look "appropriate" on my CB when I've completed the "K17" look, like Ninemeister's, as I'm trying to keep the 'bike "retro". I had a similar rack on my K2 back in '72, so...
What does the clan think? Opinions, please. Big Grin

Sorry, Nine... This post shouldn't have been put here - my bad. I can't delete it now. Apologies.

Bazbro I have that rack on my CB dlx (or one very similar...mine came from Germany) and I can't say I like the looks of it on there but it is functional for throwing a rolled up rainsuit on the back. It is a very European look imo

Thanks for that, Ferret.

I need "something" to strap my wooden leg and my medication to when I go out.
Plus Maggie needs something to hang onto during my knee-dragging and wheelying exploits...
At the moment there's nothing and I cannot identify a handle that would fit and be 'retro'. This at least serves those two purposes, but is it 'retro'??

And I'm sorry I hijacked Nine's thread - I did it quickly, without thinking and then couldn't delete it. Blush

That's ok, it's nothing to get racked off about...

well I thought about it and they are related.. .the K10 and a K17 bulds. Making Hondas latest look a lot like their first. BTW you have an hour to edit and can always pm me to edit something after that time frame.

I'm sure in Europe the rack would be considered retro, since that was the type of racks they used over there back then. I'm sure by 1969 someone in Europe was running a rack just like that or very similar. I remember them clearly on mid 70's BMW's. Here in the states it would have been a big ol rack, with a tall sissy bar and pad mounted to it.

If this thread doesn't make complete sense, it's because I removed the posts from Ninemeister's restoration thread and moved them to a new one.

Ferret's bike rack was made by Fehling, as I recall.

I actually put a rack on mine, back in '72 and I must've thought it looked good then!

Anyway, I've bitten the bullet and bought one. Prompted by the fact that it was difficult to pull onto the centre stand with nothing comfortable to grab hold of.

We shall see, but I do like yours, Ferret - looks good.
Yes, you're right Cormanus - Fehling, German, and one third the price of the Honda offering. I'm expecting the bolts to be a bit crappy but I've some stainless bolts I can probably use or get some better ones. I rescued some bobbins off the old crunched bar so they might go on.

And thanks for correcting my posting error. I need to be watched at all times...!
