Sadly, if offers another target for vandalism. Easy to poke a hockey stick butt end into it.

Those willing to hurt my CB with their hockey stick would end up in a nearby hospital...as a best option/scenerrio for violators but most likely undertakes would have to be called in...Tongue

Ma ride routinely sits alone for very long periods of time baking in sun and drenching in rain in a wide variety of public parking domains. The clutch window is interesting, but may attract unwanted individuals who would likely pass through undetected.

The ol' CB1100 used to sit alone in a parking lot all summer - baking. There were a few times I detected late in the day that somebody played with my controls.

For me it's interesting for about 7 seconds...on someone else's bike. : ) I think the cb1100 is beautiful and striking as is...the only thing I've done to mine is add crash bars and a removeable seat pad.

With a dry clutch Ducati, it allows heat and clutch dust to escape. Also, it makes it easy to clean the clutch plates by using compressed air onto the spinning clutch to dislodge material that is carried off by oil with a wet clutch. None of this matters with a wet clutch.

I think the only real benefit would be similar to what I witnessed when I saw the BMW at Cars and Coffee... you can entertain a crowd with it for a few minutes. If that's what you're into, the cost may not be a factor.

Im not sure it fits with the classic theme of the CB1100, but I like it, I have seen one on a Ducati and it was interesting.
Maybe it would be more suitable for the 'resto-mod' style of the RS, but at over $1000NZD I dont think I will get to find out...
I agree the window should be glass, especially for that money, I can imagine the plastic getting scratched, UV damaged etc and then it would just be an eyesore.

I imagine that the transparent material is just as hard and resistant as the original steel ... anyway .... it's cool for the Thai; I keep the thai rice

Unfortunately this does not appear to be the case that the clear window is as strong as the OEM aluminum. If you follow the link in post #8 in this thread, you can read about the resin window. It states not to use it on a dyno. It also says the following in red letters:

"If you purchase the skeleton clutch cover, Please replace the clear part regularly. Please check it regularly because of occurring Fine cracks in the invisible part by the deterioration and leaking oil."

So the window composition isn't up to snuff? It is a harsh environment. Expansion, contraction, vibration, chemical reaction etc. That is a "make work" maintenance piece if monitoring and replacement is necessary. Too bad. Overnight very long trips could be problematic.
