Oh my...Triumph Thruxtons
#41
At 5' 8" I'm not anticipating any problems. I pick it up tomorrow AM. Funny, I have no problem with clip ons and sport bike ergos. And I'm 58 years young. I wouldn't necessarily chose them for comfort, but they don't deter me from a 150 plus mile day on the backroads. But 6' 6" is a challenge, and you made the right decision if the bike ended up being a torture rack for you.

Capo, the bike is stunning. You will love it! True motorcycle porn.

I've been telling myself all afternoon that life is short and to just go for it. Emotion may just get the better part of logic -- we'll see.

Gorgeous bike, but I wouldn't be able to do the clip-ons regardless of the rest of the fit

I bet Genmar, or another company, won't be far behind with a solution for the clip-ons. My problem is, every time I assume the "position" my maturity just disappears, and I start thinking I'm Hailwood. That's one of the best things about my CB1100...the seating.

It looks retro but really is not. The CB really is. I say this for a few reasons, especially after tearing the bike's engine apart and looking at how it's made. The liquid cooling simply creates the presence of a radiator that immediately shows the bike is modern in design and construction. Same with the 17" wheels.

Honda went to a great deal of trouble to design and build an air-cooled engine that seems to be nearly bulletproof, and equipped the bike with 18" wheels, which impart a particular handling feel to the bike, not to mention a correct visual. The narrow wheels provide a light touch at low speeds but plenty of stability at higher velocities. They also look correct, as does the air-cooled mill. The oil cooler is period-accurate and also necessary.

I can hop on any number of other machines with lots of power and wide, sticky rubber but none are the modern classic that the Honda is.

I think the Thruxton and new Norton look great and will be very fun to ride, but the very modern features put them in a different class than the CB1100.

Deal done, and first ride impressions are off the charts. Keeping it mellow for the first 500 miles, but the pull from this motor is fantastic. And a tremendous soundtrack, just a great sounding bike for stock. That being said, performance exhaust is on order. Tomorrow, we ride to the Gathering of the Nortons in PA, and I'll have a more detailed ride report soon.
