Yea i think there are some left over VFRs available, not sure about the Beemers though. Didn't know they were out of production. Wonder why, seemed like a decent bike. I have ridden 2 of them and both were nice.

In the BMW's case, the F-model line-up has grown to 850 (853cc) and the engines are now sourced from Loncin in China (as opposed to Rotax in Austria). They've only introduced chain-drive models thus far and the rumor is the upcoming F850GT, if it ever appears, will also be chain drive. As you may know, the discontinued F800GT was belt drive. I understand the new 850 engines are smoother and more powerful than the outgoing 800's, which is a good thing.

If history is any indication, the analogue is Mexican VWs. It turned out, eh? Undecided ( ... and that Hemi ... )

If the Chinese-made Beemers are good bikes, they’ll be welcomed except by the very curmudgeonly. If they have problems, particularly mechanical, we can probably all recite the lines that will issue.

Well I just googled BMW motorcycles made in China, and a report came up that there is a recall that the connecting rods on the initial run of engines were not installed properly in the engines and may cause a crash, thus delaying sales to the USA.

I've learned that buying the first year of most BMW bikes can be a learning experience... for BMW. 3 year /36,000 mile warranty provides some comfort.

I work for a German company and we have many German suppliers as well as German customers. In my experience German companies really struggle to get a new product launched without lots of teething problems. There’s always something that’s not quite finished, something overlooked, some mistaken assumption about reality, some hasty rework, etc. Once the kinks are worked out, German companies are awesome at executing very consistently from that point forward.

The last list price I saw on left over 2012 ST 1300s if one could be found was $ 12,999. The 2018 FJRA listed for $16,300. I bought my 2018 FJR for $14,500 so 6 years newer with all the updated features for $ 1500 more than the left over ST1300.
