Hey Guys, I wanted to get your opinion on the 1100's EFI.
I'm about to buy a new bike, and it's either going to be the 1100 or a carbed sportster. I've had all kinds of bikes since '73, and 2 or 3 have been EFI. I have not been real happy with them.They were slow off of idle, or super sensitive, or slow to return to idle---on & on.
Now I know you can probably fix almost anything by huntin down the sensor or map problem-----but the complication of it really turns me off. Too bad because I really like the 1100. Can I get some opinions on the 1100's EFI, and if it has a sensor at the throttle grip or a cable. Thanks, kerry

Kerry the CB 1100 runs crisply right from idle. Reviewers have universally praised the fueling on the CB 1100. Trust me the CB 1100 runs great.

I can't imagine you NOT being happier with an fi CB 1100 vs a carbed Sportster (I've had 2 of them) and the CB is heads and shoulders above the Sportsters in smoothness, acceleration, handling, braking, fuel capacity etc.Every measurable way.

Of course it's not always about the measurable.

EFIs have come a long way since they were first introduced and the CB11's is no different - most would agree that fueling is smooth and hesitation-free from a standstill. I'm pleased to not have to worry about tuning and rejecting carbs, wouldn't have it any other way.

Have the Honda's EFI been pretty issue free, as far as reliability and sensors crapin out ?

I've had many EFI bikes including 2 Hondas. The CB1100 and my last bike, a Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 have had the best EFI as far as smoothness, both being excellent as long as the throttle cable is properly adjusted. I've never had a fuel injection reliability issue on any brand I've owned though some were a bit snatchy off idle and took a while to get used to.

Thanks guy, I appreciate it. I know what ya mean Ferret----I've had bikes that brake, accelerate, and handle on a dime-----very different than a sportster. And I have to admit, I get tired of the stretch and rake of it also.

Our bikes are not ride by wire. The throttle is cable to the throttle bodies.
Honda's PGMFI is so good I wish they had it on every engine they made. I wish it was on my Honda generators.

I've had carbs and FI.

I wouldn't do without FI. With a modern system, well done (not my sixteen-year-old R1100RT's early system) it starts quick and smooth and settles right in. As opposed to a carb, where you have to put the choke on, hope it doesn't flood, and then ease it off in steps. Some carbed bikes I had had to be warmed up ten minutes or more.

It's more complex but it's also maintenance free. Allowing for maybe one major failure over the life of the bike...the savings in your time or shop time in not having to have carbs serviced, would probably more than make up for the cost on the rare servicing/diagnosis of a FI issue.

The CB11 is the first bike I've owned with EFI. I was a bit leary, having heard reports about other EFI bikes with jerky throttle response (not Hondas). I was pleasantly surprised with the CB1100. When it comes to smooth, predictable throttle response, I can't tell the difference between the CB11 and my carbed CB750.

FI on CB is flawless, better than carbs. Not FI of old days with old computers and limited fuel maps.

This bike is sweet!
