Remember, you don't need very much lube. Depending what your using, applying it to a 4" to 6" section of chain works pretty well.
Keeps the chain a lot cleaner too.

I do the same as JustPassinThru but I need to get a better lube as it gets thrown on to the rear wheel as I ride and makes a mess.

Try making a short extension on the chain guard with duct tape.

It doesn't need to be very long. An inch is enough.

I discovered this with my first bike, a Yamaha R5C. Lubricated the chain on Sunday; took it to work on Monday. I worked in an office in those days; and had a dress shirt on. Which of course got splattered and ruined.

I subsequently ruined another shirt and two coats, before I saw the chain guard was just too short. Using a piece of a pop can and one sheet-metal screw and drill, I extended the end an inch and a half. Problem solved forever.

Here, now, too, probably. I didn't wait to ruin a shirt before making this silver-tape extension. It's been on two months, still there; and when it falls off I'll make another in two minutes.

With o-ring chains just about the only lube duty you're taking care of is the sprocket and chain interface. There fore I do the whole length.

I've been experimenting with a wax lube; so far I'm quite tickled. Back in the day, all chain lube flung off (today it still does if you over do it, but like the old days).

So much about motorcycling is so much better than the early 80's.

The tape idea is great ! chalk up another use for duct tape.
I think I'll be a fashion plate and do mine in black tape, or maybe red to match the sidecover.


As for lubing 6" of chain,
I guess one can ride at 1/4 throttle or less, then you only need 1/4 the amount of chain lube...

Suzuki recommends kerosene for cleaning the chain, and it will lube the chain also!

I'm using Suzuki spray moly-grease which is a bit messy but quite sticky. I will look into chain waxes when I've used up my cans.

I've been using Maxima Chain Wax at recommendation of dealer and have not had to clean my chain in 13K miles.....I apply it every 500 miles.

Wow, just cleaned my chain with Motul Chain Cleaner and a Grunge Brush , I should have done this sooner, looks nice, hope I don't become obsessed with having a clean chain now :-)

Seriously though, go easy with the grung brush. It is possible to damage O-rings with them.

Although I bought a grunge brush several months ago, I instead use a nice stiff toothbrush to assist the Motul chain cleaner. This product doesn't need much help, believe me! The Motul chain lube is also one of the best products I've ever used as well. For several years, I loved Maxima Chain Wax but am now so satisfied with the Motul line of products that I sincerely doubt I will ever feel the need to try other chain products. This stuff is good!!
