question regarding saddlebag guards
#1

Hi all - I did a search and found 2 old threads regarding what I'm about to ask

here

http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread....ebag+guard

and here

http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread....ebag+guard

Question time!

I have 2014 standard cb1100 with a givi luggage rack and the stock turn signal assembly. I installed some soft bags affixed to the Givi rack. I don't think I have anything to fear from these bags causing any potential hazards while driving, though they do have the potential to wheel rub.

My conundrum - installing the luggage rack and the (now installed) givi monokey plate was a complete pain in the butt and I'd really love to find a solution that doesn't require me to disassemble all the work. Since I don't have a signal relocation kit I'd like to keep the turn signals in the stock position. IF I HAVE to, I'll take it all apart to install the guards, but I'd need to know if they'd work without something not fitting correctly beforehand, or if anyone knows of a saddlebag guard set (universal or specific fit) that doesn't use the turn signal mounting hardware.

Here's my bike without/with the bags installed, and the guard kit I found on samurider https://www.samurider.com/?p=13318/

The mounting of the saddle bag guards from Samurider do not appear to interfere with the rear signal lights. I assume they move them to avoid the saddlebags. As yours ride under the signal lights, maybe they can stay.

Samurider indicates that the saddle bag guards cannot be used with a Honda rear rack. I don't know whether or not this would apply to your Givi rack.

Best to e-mail Samurider and ask them whether or not they can be used would with the Givi rack and the saddlebag set-up you have.

A picture says a thousand words and does not have to be translated.

I tried finding if anyone had combined the two previously, but I think I will actually convert my strategy to using a few cheap tie downs to act as a buffer between the back of the bags/wheel well. I'd rather just go the cheap and lazy route since there doesn't appear to be any saddlebag guards designed to work from different mounting positions. Though I may take your advice as well and email samu to see if both products can share the same space, was a tight fit getting it altogether so my guess is not likely without an extended bolt.

I think I recall someone mounting that guard with a rack, but I’d have to do some searching and might take a long while. I THINK he did something with spacers or longer bolts to make it work.

Here is a link: http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread....ght=Guards

It is a little disjointed for some reason and also references another link. Bad thing is the pic are gone due to Photobucket.

And one with a really nice pic: http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread....2#pid43242

Infinite-I, you're in luck. The photos, while not visible to the naked eye are still on the Photobucket site. To make them appear, go to an actual computer and use the Chrome browser to download an extension called Photobucket hotlink fix. With that extension installed and turned on, visit those threads and, hey presto, the photos will be visible.

thanks for the link! The problem I'd be facing is the set pictured still replaces the stock signal bracket. I'm not sure if the guards will fit in the same space with my luggage rack + stock signal bracket which is what I'm stumped about. I might bite the bullet and try it anyways, I'd just be out of time and return shipping worst case scenario.

I would have thought that someone would have at some point installed a luggage rack + soft bag guard at some point but maybe I'll be the firstTongue

They have. Thats why I posted the links. You just may have to do some engineering to get them to work or be your way.

I went back through your links and I must have missed the 3rd one, that is close to what I was looking for!
