Looking to recover K&H seat.
#1

So... the K&H seat is due to be recovered because a seam is coming apart at one of the panels. I DO NOT fault the quality of the seat for this. The seat has been stellar for all day/ long mileage riding comfort. I've NEVER come off the bike for a break due to the seat.

This seat construction is somewhat complex. The cover may actually be glued on and for sure has a screwed bead all the way around that makes recovering somewhat complex. I was quoted in the neighborhood of $400 +/-. for this by one local upholstery shop. I took an industrial stapler and tried stapling the surface underneath to see if that's and option. I kid you not, there was NO Mark on the resin shell. It is an incredibly hard type of polycarbonate or some semblance thereof.

Where the seam is coming apart. In fact, the seam is holding up it's the vinyl that's tearing. So again not a factory defect due to faulty construction.

What the seat looks like underneath. WAY overengineered for what it is. That workmanship is exemplary.

Honda's stock seat underneath:

I'm looking to have the brown seat recovered in black with the Japanese sunrise flag pattern as shown on this scooter seat, except in red and white. If that's not an option I'm asking them to do it on the stock Honda seat with the front 2/3rds black and the back 1/3rd the flag. There would be more black on my seat vs. the picture from the scooter which is more 50/50. Just sent the e-mail asking what they can do.
I would not have them put the passenger (pillion) grab strap back on.

Wow! That seat is beautifully made. Have you tried writing to K&H and seeing what they say about it?

Looks like a possible weakness in the K&H technical design, that is, the use of the materials. Otherwise, a beautiful saddle.

Ask Mr. T - My guess is K&H would take care of it. Shipping it back would be the only drawback
