True, you didn't say they wouldn't gain something, but you repeatedly stated why they wouldn't gain HD riders. I just point out that there's more to consider than HD riders.

My sense is that the BagMW will appeal to aging motorcyclists with the coin to add a baggy touring bike to their stable, don't want a Harley or GW, and prefer a European brand. At $25k it will sell a few thousand units in the US.

I think BMW should give this bike a name for the American market.
Street/Road Glide = Straße gleiten <---I like this one!
Road King = Straße König
Road leader or road guide = Straßenführer

IF I was going bagger, it would be a F6B or 14+ HD Road King in that order. For now, sticking with my R1200RT and the CB1100.

I'm completely lost on the term "bagger." What is it -- a bike with a big engine, low windscreen, and panniers? Does my K1200RS qualify?

Baggers do have only panniers, no trunk, and generally sit lower in the back end, a tail dragger if you will. Harley kinda pioneered the look others are falling in line as they are Harley's biggest seller.

A "bagger" in German means power shovel, maybe this was the intention of the BMW PR department. There are similarities (additional to the explanation from ferret)
