Beauties.
I've always wanted to like '79s more, but that was the year they deleted the kick starter.

Pretty yes- but compared to our bikes- reality on those would be meh.

I had been working at a Honda dealer when these came out. From a maintenance standpoint, not an improvement over the single cammers.
Valves would get tight quickly, and many would need valve jobs in 10-12k miles, some under warranty. We didn't know why - same part numbers for valves and guides, shims and buckets as the CBX, which had no problems. Probably cam closing ramps. Their alternator brushes wore quickly, and if dropped even mildly on the right side, the thin engine cover would distort and the alternator rotor would touch the windings. On the plus side, they were faster, and the new cylinder studs allowed less head gasket failures. Not a lot of fond memories

Yeah, but it's surprising sometimes how pretty can make up for meh...

I had an '81 for 30 years without a hiccup. Recently sold my '79 and opted for the CB1100. The '79 was a constant carb rebuild nightmare.
