I and a couple of buds are headed out to the Born Free Motorcycle show today, near Irvine Lake, CA. Hope to see a lot of custom builds, hear some live music, and eat some food that is not good for me. I'll post some pics.

Thanks Charlie. Can't wait to see them. I'm a bit too far up north to make it myself but whenever I see pics of Born Free it always looks like a fun time.

I wussed out. It was getting pretty warm, and Mrs. Gone was talking about going to the beach, so we did that. However, I needed a can of chain lube, so we stopped at the Del Amo dealership in Tustin on the way home. They had a stunt riding show in their parking lot, with barbecue and music going. So, we got some motorcycle culture after all, and didn't have to pay twenty bucks and park in a dusty field!

Well, I did not see any pic-worthy bikes. We wandered around the grounds, did not get even a nibble of anything, there being not much worthy of interest, the bands were all Metallica wanna-bes, and the parking lot was jammed, jammed I tells ya, with H-D. I am glad I did not pay the twenty bucks though; I was ready to, and at the ticket booth, I handed the two ticket sellers my money, and asked if there was a veteran discount. They asked if I could prove I was a vet. I said yes, I have a pic of my DD214 on my phone, would they like to see it? They shook their heads and just handed me my cash back, so I got in for free. The most interesting vendor was a boot company out of WA, White Boots. High-dollars stuff, but super well made.

Thanks for the report, Charlie. Glad I went to the beach, and caught a motorcycle stunt show on the way home. How dusty was your bike when you got back to it?
A few years ago, it wasn't a particularly warm weekend, and Mrs. Gone and I hiked to the show grounds on the bike lane of the canyon road. We had more fun watching all of the bikes go by then we did when we got there. And I didn't have to pay either... I found enough Harley parts along side the road that were in good enough shape to trade with some guys in the parking lot for a pair of unused tickets.

Too bad about all the HDs. Eyes must have glazed up pretty quickly. I hope no vertigo episodes.

I remember when Harley had introduced the Livewire. It was showcased at Born Free, but if I recall, people knocked it over to get to the “real” Harleys.

I've decided to sell my Suzi V-Strom 1000 cause I don't want to take two bikes to TX. I'm just gonna slip the CB into one of the pods and tie it down so I won't have to tow a trailer. Once I get to TX, I may look around for a TransAlp, though. They're pretty rare in the US and old, to boot, but, what the hey.

The Suzi developed a dont want to start attitude. i am sure its one of the "safety" switches but don't have time to mess with it. I ended up donating it to charity, and it went away yesterday.
