I've had a lot of bikes over the years, naked and otherwise, and since I've had my 1100 I've thought that the wind noise was not that bad (without earplugs), but I dismissed it as my imagination. Well, I stumbled onto something the other day: I was riding along and I stretched my shoulders by moving my head and upper body towards the headlight maybe a foot and the wind noise increased noticeably. I realize that the mirrors might be making it worse because my head was almost between them, but I'm wondering if the instrument panel is contributing somewhat to the lack of wind noise? I got my Concours 14 out and put the windshield all the way down and it seems noisier that my CB!

I installed a "new" windscreen and the new turbulence was very noisy. Had to rake it back a fair amount (testing still going on) to make it quiet again.

yes, the instrument panel serves as mini windscreen. It's not your imagination, I installed a windscreen to protect my chest from 40s wind, riding is far more NOISY.
The tiny stock windscreen on Kawa KLR650 7 yrs ago is not a joke, it is effective. I actually want to cut a small piece of stainless steel sheet metal to install on my bike

This is why I'm so pleased with the Dart Flyscreen. Numerous other screens on other bikes have provided wind blast protection at the expense of buffeting and noise. The Dart's protection is, to be fair, minimal, but it puts a super clean airflow up at helmet height where it belongs IMO.

When ever you alter the bike with some sort of shield protection you sacrifice clean air. What i do is cut the screen down to the point where there's minimal difference standing on the pegs or sitting on the seat. Trial and error. You can find a sweet spot that works for you.
