Rboe, very cool! A lot of guys here at work (Motorola) run APRS in their vehicles. Yours is the first one I've seen on a bike-nice job.
Since you are mounting in a topcase and have plenty of room, you can also consider upgrading to a mobile unit. I have a Yaesu in my truck that does all the same stuff (although I haven't added APRS yet), but one thing I really like is that the mobile unit itself acts as a repeater for a handheld, so you have the high power off the vehicle/bike, and connect to it using the handheld when on foot which effectively gives you full transmit power when using either the mobile unit or the handheld.

Since the amp is not weather proof the top case was required and when all is said and done a mobile unit would have been the better choice. Kenwood and Yausu both make units that would have been "drop in" (it is my understanding the Kenwood mobil unit is basically the same electronics as the HT, just more power and a different display). For the money; it would have been a much better choice.
Andy has it setup for his two road bikes, with his 1400 California ready to roll for the Datil Rally. Chris is in mid-project for his Griso and we hope to have him up and running for the rally too. His new job is eating up a bunch of his time so it will be tight.
My Kenwood can do double duty as a repeater too. Just not setup for that yet (it has a full featured TNC inside where as the Yaesu is more of a KISS modem - I think). Having the HT does make it a bit handier for off the bike use (I keep telling my self!). It does not have any mapping capability, but its' GPS suite does allow for a return to start point feature. If I leave the instructions at home I can still get lost though.

That is a static message I have to change (and since I'm retired, I'm inclined to leave it

). I hope to remember to change it when I leave for the rally. I'll change the icon from the default W (somehow that is the Kenwood corp. logo) to a motorcycle soon too. Now that it's working.
